I love prison shows myself.......yes, somehow you feel a bit more connected knowing something of what they are going through.

I work in the AK system at Spring Creek where Lockup was filmed. Those shows are created by Hollywood to sell to the public. That is not reality TV. It takes 10 - 14 days to film an episode of 60 minutes. Then it is taken apart and spliced together by the professionals to make it a TV show

These shows may go inside prisons but only the worst and most dramatic inmates, stories and parts get shown to us. MSNBC did a Locked Up at Spring Creek Correctional Centre in Alaska and I have a little brother whose there doing quite a stretch he just turned 21 this month and the way that prison as well as others are portrayed isn't exactly how those places are , if they were I would think everybody would be petrified 24/7 losing sleep if they had a loved one doing time inside one of those places. Truth is prisons like Spring Creek are only a violent watch your back 24/7 one step away from some other inmate beating you to a bloody pulp if you are in prison for sexual offenses especially child molestation as well as rape ect. Someone whose a "chester" which is what inmates call child molesters deal with the most violence and have the most to worry about, that's one thing that is true inmates in prisons even though they are the drug dealers, killers, armed robbers ect. they do not accept inmates in for sexual offenses and it's not like "chesters" get attacked in the showers which is a popular belief because the majority go straight into protective custody right away or they will get beat up, harassed etc. These shows about prisons wouldn't make me feel better about my loved one being there, but thankfully I learned the reality of how men's prisons were from knowing people who'd done time in there. If there's anyone else who has someone that they love or know in spring creek correctional centre in alaska or in Fairbanks Correctional Center the pre-trial jail and wants some support you can give me a shout I have dealt with both places.
