Default Connecticut ends Death Penalty

The Governor of CT signed into law this afternoon a repeal of the death penalty for CT. This does not effect those men currently on death row but hopefully it will aid in their appeals.

It is a step in the right direction however I dont understand why they didnt make it retro-active to current deathrow inmates? They are also on his watch. By repealing it the appeals process for those left on DR make take a turn for the positive any way.

Here is a beautiful letter from a CT mother that lost her son to murder. An excerpt:

I love that these two events [ Nat'l Crime Victims' Rights Week and the the repeal of the D/P] are coinciding because they fit nicely together. The reason so many victims’ family members advocated for repeal is we saw the ways the death penalty harms us. It creates an arbitrary (if not racist and classist) distinction about which cases are “worthy” of capital punishment and which murders don’t merit the ultimate punishment.

Read her letter here.
