I have a friend who is doing what you are a doing with her son, except for instead of asking...she puts him on the toilet every 30 minutes, and tells him to go. If he goes he goes, if he doesnt...he doesnt. So far, she says he is making really good progress though.

I'm trying it with my two year old...but sometimes he decides he is afraid of the potty...so I get frustrated, and have decided I'll wait til he is fully ready (even though he runs in the bathroom when he has to go ?)

When I potty trained my daughter, when we were at home she was naked. LOL. Crazy, but it worked! Every 15-20 minutes I would just put her on the potty...after a few days she caught on. Of course, we still had accidents but it didn't take long to potty train her.

Yeah so far she's only gone once in the potty today but she did tell me.. So it's some kinda progress we've had a couple accidents but hopefully with in a week we've got it down.

With my daughter, I made a sticker chart and every time she went on the potty even if she didn't do anything, she got a sticker. That worked for a while. Then she decided she had no interest in it whatsoever So I let it go and she still wore diapers I think. Then once she started showing interest again, I would make sure she used the potty at specific times like right when she woke up, before bed, after meals. We tried her in underwear and she did have accidents, but she hated being wet. So we went to pull-ups and she started telling me when she wanted to use the potty. I got her a little one and put it in the kitchen so she could get to it easily. Once she got it, she got it. Training at night was more difficult cause she never woke up. But she told me when she wanted to wear underwear to bed. I asked if she wanted a pull-up or underwear and she picked underwear. She did have a few accidents, but even with that, she would start waking up and tell me she had to go potty. It takes time! That's the biggest thing and honestly I feel like you should go by how your kid is doing, not what you think they should be doing. I was worried she wouldn't get it, but she caught on when she was ready! Hope this helps.

I tried the pull ups didn't work it seemed like a diaper to her.. With just the underwear today we've had a few accident but now she's told me she needed to go twice cuz she didn't like being wet... I left her wet for at least 15 minuets so she feels it's uncomfortable and so far she's told me she needs to go which I think is good!! I made progress today!

Hey at least you are making progress! I get so frustrated by the whole thing. I've heard that girls are easier to potty train...I dont know if there is any validity to that.

I don't know if boys would be harder I mean they do sit down at first right? Yeah I was frustrated at first I would try it one day but then not the next I'm just tired of changing diapers and she's getting to big! Plus dirty diapers from a big girl aren't very fun Lol.

Hi Mrs. Dominguez! Potty training is a blast, isn't it??? :-) We have three kids, and with the first one, tried really hard to get him to use the potty from about the time he turned 2 (had so many people telling me how they had potty trained their child at 18 months...etc.) It felt like we had to make an overachiever out of him! Anyway, it was like banging our head against the wall....he just wasn't ready. When we finally backed off, he decided for himself to use the potty and it was easy! For the second and third, we didn't really push the issue...and they both were fairly easy (don't want to make it sound like a piece of cake....b/c it still wasn't that easy!). They were all about 3 when they decided to use the big potty on their own. So...from my perspective, the best advice is just to not push too hard if they aren't ready. I guess the fun part is figuring out when they ARE ready!

During my time with Focus on the Family, I have run across some great articles that outline how to determine when a child is ready to start potty training...and then some ideas for how to do it. You can find them by going to thrivingfamily.com and searching using "potty training" in the search field (or pm me if you want me to send you the links). I found the info to be helpful for our fam.

Best wishes to you as you begin this adventure! It WILL happen....even when it doesn't seem like it! :-)

WOW! Seriously?! That was so quick! How often did you end up putting her on the toilet? I need to kick myself and get on it. Hope it will go as well as yours did.

Well Wednesday I would ask her if she needed to go she would say no but then she would pee on herself and she would be after me to change her so I would leave her dirty for about 10 mins then change her even if she was pooped so by Wednesday we had gone Potty about 3 times on the toilet. Thursday it was a little easier, as soon as she woke up I put on her big girl underwear and I would take her about every 20 minuets & after she would eat or drink. She didn't go all the time but when she did I got her all excited & would give a high five! Friday went sooo smooth she would tell me every time she needed to go!!! She'd run to me and say "bathroom mommy" so we'd run and she would go! It wasn't as hard as I thought I think the dirty under wears works, cuz it's uncomfortable to them no one wants to be dirty!
