Painful periods. Want to go back on birth control.

I stopped my birth control a long time ago because obviously the bf is locked up. I also was way too emotional, crying all the time, etc...on it. It did however regulate my period well and lessened many painful symptoms. I was on the Nuvaring. I know it bothered my bf that I was still on it in the beginning of his time, so I think he was happy when I went off. The thing is yes I'm less emotional, but my periods are horrible. Cramps so bad I'm bent over in pain and have to lie in bed. I also have had to use mass amounts of tampons. These symptoms have gotten worse as time goes on. Anyway, Nuva worked, but had more side effects. I think I would like to probably go back on a pill form. I took Yaz for years and had no problems. Are there any recommendations for others?
