the situation is changing with the numbers of guys in the hole and getting visits.
be there bit earlier, dont worry when you have to wait.... make it easy to the co's, as if there are no visits after you, they might make it easy for you as well.

10.30 is a outline, what means they bring visitor out, those who want to leave. they call this at 10.30; so the time you get processed and driven to the block, should be the time those leaving reach the gate; this is why I would be there a quater hour early, as you might just catch this bus where the officer is going to collect the others; if they work hand in hand, your processing would not take this long... :-)

Default New Process...

Okay so the new process really wasn't what I was told it would be and there's not much to it. We still have to fill out the pass, hand it to the CO, they process us in...and then print out a (yellow) piece of paper and that's what they use to call us in and out by. Some have pictures of the inmate and some don't. I tried to be nosey and see what all was on the paper, but I couldn't ...supposedly this is used to track the visitors and see who you visit (in other prisons as well), how often you visit, etc.

They do still call us out 1 by 1 when leaving and that is how we get on the bus to leave. It's really not that bad and the only thing is they call you 1 by 1 to get on the bus versus we just used to all line up to get on the bus. Still the process is very smooth...hope they don't change anything.

I dont know the number, as I cannot really use it; but there is a thread in this part of the forum with the important phone numbers, when you open the prison forum, it is in the upper part.

you best call the visitor center....

no, no appointment is needed for sny; only for those guys who are in the hole appointments are needed.
if I am right, they start processing at 7.30 am; and it is ok to arrive at the prison at around 7; there is not much waiting time; at least I did not hear any different.

visiting ends by 2 pm; foto tokens have to be purchased at the entrance; for this you need coins: 8, as it is 2$ each .
Sny will be A yard; which is or the second (minimum is the first but has not always visitors).

Like shush mentioned they open the doors at 7:30am and you are allowed in the parking no earlier then 7:15am or they will tell you to leave an come back. She can purchase the photo dockets in the processing area.

thanks for sharing the info; this is new. it has never been a problem to be there at 7; so they changed their rules... I will pay attention to this for my next visit; there is a coffee shop on the way and if I would be too early it would be for my benefit!

Default Can you say crazy...

When I got there on Sunday at 715am...there were already 15 people in line ahead of me. So people were getting there at 7am...Saturday was CRAZY, Sunday not as bad, but the new staff processes people in slow as I don't know what. New staff so they are still learning the system...had the old crew been there, I can assure you that the wait would not have been as long. I got in line at 715 and it was 820 when I got on the bus...should have made the 1st bus, but that's another story.

Glad those of you with loved ones on C Yard finally got to visit!

That's because people behind us jumped in line as the door opened. Some had their passes filled out and others grabbed a pass and jumped in line. I wasn't feeling that at all. I was the tall lady in the multi color stripped dress I was sitting near the door waiting to get on the 2nd bus...I wonder if I saw you.

I'm glad you ladies got to visit! Im crossing my fingers that this coming weekend isn't as bad. Either way, I'm nervous about going cuz this will be my first time in New Folsom. Is this new staff really picky about the clothing? Did your loved ones get to have lunch with you?

They are not really picky about clothing but just in case take extra clothing. Since the lock down on C yard is over, it is very packed so be there early. this past weekend it was funny how i got there at 7:15am and people where already there and i am there every weekend.

Thanks, I have another question... Being that you are there very often, I'm staying in rancho Cordova... Is that a good area to sty in as far as getting to the prison fast and having things to do on Saturday with two little kids? I'm nervous Bout finding the prison too.. I guess every time my husband gets moved I get stressed out the first visit...

you for sure can google the directions to reach the prison; when you reach the prison grounds, after leaving the normal road, you have to take the first street right, then when you reach the parking lodge you go down left, not through the gate you see.... there you are.

Old Folsom has some nice shops... the river is a nice place to stay for a bit of time, so is the lake, but some places ask for money to access the parking places; not sure if this is the way all around, maybe somebody else knows. i have only been there once.

so depending what your kids like, you for sure find something to do. on certain days, when you get out of the prison grounds and drive right, then just a bit further, there is to your right a park and there is a train running....

and believe me, I would feel absolut alike; still remember my first time where I did visit! good luck to you!!
and there are toys in the visiting room; at least there have been in the past..

I would say not picky. I've been lucky. I've NEVER had to change. I know the safe colors and I been wearing the long summer dresses...even halter dresses, but I wear a tee shirt underneath. Just don't wear anything skin or super tight or see through..stay away from orange and chambray blue (inmate colored shirts) there are some other colors too. i see a lot of people wearing black, grey, pink, white, red...NO GREEN or FORREST GREEN..no blue jeans, black jeans are fine. Anything with a pattern or multi colored is okay as well. Hope that helps! Enjoy your visit

Rancho Cordova is nice...it's like my second home but um...yes, that is a good area to stay in. I normally stay at the Red Lion Inn - very clean and safe place to stay. I've also stayed at the Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn, but prefer the Red Lion. If you're going to be visiting often, I would suggest driving around the area (don't worry you won't get lost) just to familiarize yourself with some things. There's a Walmart closeby, a Target, Kohls and some other stores in the immediate area. As far as things to do with small kids...hmm not sure. I don't have kids so I travel solo most of the time, but I'm sure there is stuff around there to do, you may have to research that or ask the hotel staff. Folsom is REEEEEALLLY nice (but expensive) I know they have a movie theater up there and a bunch of shops, maybe even a Chuck E Cheese -The prison is very easy to get to from Rancho Cordova and takes about 15 minutes to get there - the fwy driving isn't bad. Did you already Mapquest it? That's what I did. If you need directions let me know, other than that - breathe! It's going to be fine As the others suggested...get there early, but then again they did terminate visits due to overcrowding so maybe getting there around 845 may help with that. It may not be as crowded since a lot of people came last weekend

It's only been a few days and I had so much on my mind trying to get in there...I can't even remember. Going through a lot with him right now and my mind is far from clear. I'm trying to remember but I can't that's my last visit for a while...not doing the behind the glass thing no more...so now we wait...either he goes back to B Yard, xfrs to C yard or another prison...
