Default MO switches to Propofol

Last week the Missouri Department of Corrections announced it was switching from its longstanding three-drug method to use of a single drug, propofol. Missouri would be the first state ever to use propofol as an execution drug.

This is not an easy drug to dose correctly. It is very short acting and causes death due to respiratory depression. Not pleasant. It is still used In hospital settings) so if the manufacturer refuses to ship it will directly impact patient care.

Momma this is horrible. Are human's that blood thirsty to the point of experimenting on other human's???? I read where the propofol wears off quickly and the person could be in cardiac arrest. It may not kill them and then what??? In California the D.A across the boarder is trying to force the Superior Courts in all counties to give executions dates for all those who exhausted their appeals. They are completley ignoring the fact that 1. theirs no protocol for a 1 drug 2. it has to go through a public opinion before adopting the new rule 3. The people of california will be given a chance to either keep or abolish the dp. Just terrible Momma.

I agree--this is human experimentation. And of all drugs to use--it isn't easy to dose and its effects vary from patient to patient. So one person might be sedated while another is alert as he suffucates.

Came across this article, and hope this is standing true:

UK to ban export of drug approved for use in US executions
Government to announce export control on overseas sales of propofol after Missouri said it could be used in lethal injections

Juliette Jowit, political correspondent
The Guardian, Tuesday 10 July 2012 20.00 BST
Missouri is the first US state to allow propofol to be used in executions.
A bar on exports from the UK of a drug approved for use to execute prisoners in America is to be announced on on Wednesday - a move which could put pressure on the US's already strained death row prisons.

Thank you Great Britain for once again helping end capital punishment worldwide (by banning the export of material that could be used in executions)...I hope other nations that produce propofol will also ban the export of it to Missouri...as Missouri rarely holds any executions nowadays, maybe it should now do away with the death penalty...it would immediately save Reggie Clemons, for a start.
