"They" are questioning if my jail marriage is legal, it is, right?

so it was clear that my boyfriend was going to prison for awhile (10yrs). so we got married before his sentencing. but now there is a question of the legality of it. his mother had been given power iof attorney and had signed his name on the marriage license and the certificate. a cop in the mailroom contacted the sept of health and statistics.
I am devastated. I'm not sure how to. proceed. my husband is in pierce county jail, WA. and will be going to prison (shelton) Tuesday.
hopefully someone who has gone through this same situation and can give me a little insight and guidance.
