Hi Everyone! My name is Mari and my Fiance was just sentenced to a 2-4 prison sentence. I must admit that it's nice to see a web site that is so helpful to families in this situation. I was also wondering if anyone could answer a question that I have? If my husband has a 2-4 sentence does he get good time? So instead of 24 Months it would be 16 Months? Please Help... Thanks!!!

normally, with good behavior and completion of all programs, he will serve no more than 2/3rds of the top number of the sentence. He will have a parole hearing at 2/3rds of the bottom number--he could be released at that point--though it is less than common.

If his crime is non-violent and he has no violence in his background (there are several other requirements) he could be considered for the Shock program. Yoiu can read about that in the Wende Hub under Lakeview if you think it may apply.

Well his charge is NoN- Violent and has No Violent charges from his past. I did speak to him to let him know about the possibilities of Shock and he told me that he will look into that once he is moved from The County Jail. I am still a little confused about how much time he will do out of the 2-4 years can someone tell me in years and months LOL.......Thank you for the information!

We cannot answer because there is no answer. As I said, he least he would do is shock, which, all told would end up being about 8 months (program is 6 months but it takes time to get in). If he does not get shock, he will get a parole hearing at 16 months-it would be uncommon to be let go at this point. The most he would usually do is 32 months with good behavior. If he was a non compliant prisoner, he could do all 48 months.

If this is a DWI charge, they usually do a minimum of 2 years.

But there is no exact way to know.

Thank You so much for your response! I do understand what your saying as far as no one really knows the answer and why, but at least I have some type of time frame which was exactly what I was really looking for...
