Notice to new members intending to register - from January 9th 2012

My Uncle is locked up and I know what prison he is located in. I just don't know how to get his dorm number and his bed number. He does not know I exist and I did not know about him until a few months ago. Any help is appreciated!

You could always try calling the prison and asking them for that information....tell them you know he is there, but want to surprise him with a letter, but don't know his dorm and bed number. All they can say is no.

I was not sure if they were allowed to give that information out over the phone or not. But like you said all they can say is no.

I didn't know if there was a website or something I could search on to find out.

Could your Uncle possibly have a pen-pal ad up on one of the sites....you could go to a few of them and search to see if he is there, if so, it will tell you how to write to him...with the information you are wanting.

Good news!! I called the prison and I could not believe it, they just gave me the information!!! I was so happy. Letter is written and now to send it. I hope he will be happy to find out he has a niece he didn't know he had.

I can not thank everyone enough for your suggestions and help. It means so much to me. I wish everyone luck and time to speed by for your loved ones to come home. Unfortunately my Uncle has life but does have to possibility for parole but not sure when.
I am such a newbie but let me know if I can help anyone. Even if it is just to talk and pass the hours away.

I am glad you were able to get the information needed to write your Uncle.

People are always amazed that I am willing to call the prison and ask questions...I guess some people are intimidated by prison officials.

Like I said, all they can say is no.....no harm done

I am sure your Uncle will be more than happy to know you exist and that you were willing to reach out to him. I hope you can get to know each other and have a ricch relationship.

it took me a while to be comfortable calling, but i have found out that, as long as you are courteous and respectful, you can get the answers and/or action you or your lo needs.

I was so nervous! But they were very nice and helpful. I have got the letter written sealed and ready to go.... Now to mail it.... I know it sounds so silly but i really this is the hardest part. I'm going to send it off today.

Congrats on finding your uncle that is so great!! Yep it never hurts to ask always just respect everyone and the worse they can say is no. That is so great you found him!! It doesn't sound silly wanting to find someone in your family. I'm very happy for you!! Thanks for the update!!
