MWI, Do you omit certain info from letters?

Out of curiousity and obviously without going into detail, what topics do you not discuss via letter? I ask because I wonder if it's the same topics that I'm hesitant about.

Call me crazy but I find it hard to believe that CO's in a prison with hundreds of inmates have time to read every line of every letter. I often express mail to him so it comes with tracking. He generally gets the letter the same or next day that it arrives in the facility so for *me* I doubt they are reading letters beginning to end.

That aside, I really wouldn't care what someone who I will never interact with in the free world thinks about me, my letters or my pictures.

There are some topics that are better left off paper in general but it's not because I'm worried about the judgement of a corrections officer or mailroom worker...

Edited to say - leaving messages for CO's in letters seems like a very bad idea - why bother? Aren't you just inviting conflict? I mean it's prison - it shouldn't be a surprise there is no privacy

The only thing I don't write about is situations that could get someone in trouble. Otherwise I don't care what they read, what pictures they drool over, etc. As a matter of fact, I feel like they need to pay me because I know what others pay for my erotica and I know that if they take the time to read the xxx rated letters I send they're having a great time!

Like Patty said, anything that might have even the slightest potential to get someone in trouble. Anything I wouldn't want as a matter of record.

Eh, it's just as a joke. I've done it a few times never taken it further, never would. I'm sure that if they are actually reading it they're well aware that we're aware of the mail process. Hmm... I wonder if they'd ever be upset about it? You're making me think...On a side note, I flood them with multiple long letters per week, I'm sure they don't read every single line.

LOL if they read every line of mine they read a 22 page letter at least once a week and the others which I send daily are at least 7 pages so they don't need to read a good book in their spare time, my letters include everything. Like some of the other ladies who won't say something that could get someone in trouble, I won't directly say " hey I loved it when I copted a feel Saturday" but when I say I love the way you feel my guy knows what I mean.

I dont censor what I say in my letters if the mailroom staff have nothing else to talk about then Im glad I keep then in juicy gossip.

I try to be as open and honest as possible about everything, especially considering letter writing is our only form of communication, but there are certain topics that I shy away from. Not because I don't want to share with him but because I don't want anyone else reading it.

I know the general consensus is that the mailroom staff/guards merely "skim" thru letters but being a former DOC employee, I've been in the mailroom when staff have read letters in their entirety, laughed/joked about it, looked up the inmate it's addressed to just to see who it was written to, laughed at pictures, cards, poems, ect...same with the guards in the dorms. It's frequent compound gossip who's receiving what from who and who's going thru what at home because they've read it in the inmate's mail.

Being witness to these sorts of things I'm very cautious about what I write in my letters and he's constantly pointing out how I don't open up much.

Do you just ignore it and write whatever? Write in code? May seem silly but I'm curious. Fill me in.

I think each of us has his or her own point that we are uncomfortabe crossing. If you have reached yours, nothing wrong with that. What you choose to include in a letter is entirely for you to decide, there is not right nor wrong way of going about this. I know I was very conscious of this same thing years ago but over time, I guess I just became hardened by this whole prison experience and it just doesn't matter to me anymore what some stranger thinks of me or what I write in a letter. If they get off on something I said, more power to them. Write from your heart and don't let fear stand in between whatever it is you want to share in a letter, try to focus on the person you are writing it to and if you want him to know something, do so. I know this is difficult but it gets easier over time, trust me, I've been there. Good luck with however you decide to handle this. I wish you well.

No maam our letters are all we have we dont get many calls and our visits are almost never so I refuse to hold back in our letters the only thing we dont really discuss is his appeals or his case. I know what hes there for no need to discuss that. DONT ALLOW ANYONE TO STEAL YOUR JOY, let your hair down and GO AT IT he will enjoy it.
