Default Mainline to SNY - Now what?

My brother is in HDSP servig 20 with only 3 done (too long), Thankfully he recently started the process to drop out of the gang. We are all very proud of him for doing that. Since that part of his life has brought nothing but pain and suffering.
From his letters he states that he is in limbo currently held at ASU and has no idea what will happen next. He hasn't received any concrete information as to what will happen next.
From what I've read (this forum and others) he will be investigated first to ensure that he indeed needs to be moved over to SNY. He's really worried about the wrong people harming him or his family.
I would like to know if anyone has any idea what he should expect moving forwad:
- How long will the investigation take place
- When will he be placed in a permanent location
- Beyond SNY what other protection will he have
- Will he be given the opportunity to go to a facility closer to his family

I am not all familiar with the process for Gang drop outs.... there is the rumour all over again, they have to share information, what is called ratting on others....
i know it does not have to happen; there ARE guys who went sny without telling on their buddies, what does not mean the *buddies* dont get told he did....

first step to reach a yard is to accept a cellie from an other race; to prove they can get along with each other. this can be easy, if he gets a good guy just from a different race it can be a real task if he gets a guy which is not that great or mentally ill.

when he is going to a yard, it will be seen where he is sent to. this depends the level he is, but with the long sentence it might be a level 4; there are several level 4 sny yards..... it the one he will get is closer to family this is pure luck: if he is in high desert now and you live south, he has a good chance to get nearer.

once he will have reached the yard he'll be, he may have to find a good cellie for himself. also this can be a very testy time. he can have some luck or he will need some effort to overcome the time until then.

greatest problem on sny is: there are those who are testy and there are a few great guys..... what is said about sny is: there is less respect, what actual seems to be true. there is really some strange behavior around!!!!!

but there are many good things as well; depending a bit which yard he will be. there are more programs on these yards and there is more time out of the cells. there are less lockdowns as well.

well, much depends on guys who are already there and how they live their life....

Appreciate the info. I truly appreciate it. It's tough for us since is the only time that we have had an experience of anyone in our family being in the system. You feel so helpless and with little to no resources. I'll pass on your info to the rest of our family and see what happens next.

mylilbro-welcome to PTO! We all at one time or another knew nothing about the prison system and everything that goes along with it so we know how you must be feeling. PTO is a great site for info on all your questions you may have. If you haven't already, visit the HDSP forum for more specific information on the prison your brother is at HERE. Good luck and hope your brother's transition is a smooth one. Please don't hesitate to contact me or another staff member if you have any questions.

One thing he will be required to do is write every detail of all the things he did and saw others do from the time he first started in the gang life till the time he drops out.
He will not only give up details about himself but others too.
He will need to be able to "program" with guys he would have been in serious conflict with in the past and have only the co's to protect him.
There are gangs even in the sny yards and he will need to avoid them or he can get taken off the sny yard and placed in security housing.
He can never go back to the general population yards since he is now "no good".
His concerns are well founded and only God knows how it will play out.
