Default Did time in FL DOC

Hey ya'll.

I just jumped at the beginning of March, after having done 8 years at Gulf CI and it's annex. The whole time I was down I was an orderly of one type or another and have pretty good knowledge about how some of the stuff in the FL DOC works (and good specific kowledge if you have questions about 'The Gulf'.)

The way I see things, if ANYONE benefits from something we do or learn here, then EVERYONE benefits. I left homeboys back there that I care about and constantly have something going on to benefit them.

If you have any questions about FL DOC, feel free to ask; If I don't have an answer, I usually know how to get one.

J

Hey and welcome to PTO
My boyfriend is at Gulf CI MAIN. My first question to the OP is if you had heard anything about the new cell phone rule? because he swears me up and down that he can call cell phones now. And can you share a little of your firsthand experience of being in Gulf?

On 3/9/2012 the rule to allow inmates to call cel phones was proposed. It is not, as of yet, allowable. The good news is that once a rule actually makes it to the 'proposed' stage, it usually happens. I have an email in to the attorney in charge of the proposal asking for a clarification of 'pre-paid' cel phones (like does it include places like Boost Mobile.)

Can I share some experience? Sure, but we are talking about 8 years of being at a camp that is not high on the list of places guys WANT to transfer to. The Gulf is unofficially designated as a disciplinary camp (guys coming off CM tend to end up there), and has a well deserved reputation of being STRICT.

In my VERY biased opinion, they (the institution as a whole) have a tendency to do as they please until someone speaks up. i.e. I sent a homeboy some pics of Nikki Minaj. They were well within the 'permissable' mail guidelines, yet they were rejected. I sent a copy of the pics to someone in Tally and he sided with me. Now the mailroom at Gulf is changing it's reason for rejection instead of saying they were wrong.

One word of advice: Be careful about who you call and what you complain about. Most officers have no problem with retribution.

(Thanks to everyone for the 'welcome'!)

Ok. I tried to tell him but he keeps telling me some of the boys in his dorm did it and are able to call cell phones. Maybe their people are forwarding calls Idk.

Welcome and thank you for coming in here and taking the time to spread your knowledge. I am sure it will be very much appreciated here!

I know I will have questions as my husband takes his journey through FL DOC. I guess the hardest thing so far is not knowing. This forum helps me A LOT in understanding and it is always beneficial to get first hand information and experience!

Hey JP, thank you for the oppertunity to ask questions! Are you on Probation at all after your release and if so, how do you feel about it so far? Like do you feel like the boundries they have set for you are fair, or do you feel set up for failure?
