Thumbs down Keefe again!!!!

Yep... Keefe was awarded the commissary portin of DOC againThey are telling the inmates that they are going to have more and better food and that inmates familys are going to be able to even send packages now. I looked on Keefe's web site and it is no help. Anyone know anything?

all i know is from the adc website, the new contract begins oct 2. hopefully, we will hear something about the packages by then. i was hoping to get aramark specifically because of the packages--i saw it as a way to bypass the new 1% deduction. not that the deduction actually amounts to much, but it was just the principal. i hate giving doc anymore than i already have.

Meeee to! All these fees being taken out in addition to the $25 for visits are some bs! Keefe said now store prices will be going up. Just enough to make me real mad!

My guy just received new store order forms today - there were quite a few changes and he actually was happy with several of the changes. There's healthier options for buying food, like granola bars and fig newtons - he was really looking forward to ordering those. The healthier food options are quite a bit cheaper and the junk food is now more expensive. Peanut butter was a lot cheaper, which is great because that's one of his staples.

Cigarettes (if available) are American Spirit. Maybe some other brand names are available? Those are those ones he likes, so he noticed the name right away (even though he said he was going to quit!).

They can buy knit hats for winter and several of the clothing prices are a lot less expensive. Also, he said the sketchpads were a lot cheaper, too.

Not sure what else has changed, but I'm hoping with the healthier options in the commissary might equal healthier food in the kitchen (I can dream, right?).

Apparently the Keefe commissary list is "golden" inside and it's almost impossible to get a copy of it sent outside. I talked to my bf and his cellie should be released within the next 30 days or so, so my bf is going to get his list and try to mail it to me. If anyone can get their loved ones to get a 2nd copy of this, so we can post it on PTO, please do so...I really want to see what's on this list and what the prices are!! BTW, New Balance shoes have also been dropped off the list. Coffee has been increased by $1 and soups have gone up by .02 or .03 (which doesn't sound like a lot, but any raises on the list is serious for our loved ones!!)

I'm hoping to see the new store list too. Let us know if you hear anything, Paulie's Girl!

Apparently, the changes are a real mixed bag, and the yard is in a frenzy about it. For example, they can only buy one single-bladed razor per week. How are you going to shave every day with one of those stupid razors? The other personal hygiene products (soap, deodorant, shampoo) aren't all that good, either. AND, to curtail stamps as currency, they now only sell prestamped envelopes, for which they are charging a whopping 60 cents per envelope! That is a hefty raise in price. For those who have letter writing as a primary form of communication, that one is probably going to be painful. I agree with you, a few cents makes a huge difference!

ETA: Paulie's Girl, look at you with less than a year to go!

I had not heard about the stamp and envelope issue. That is going to just piss him off, as he really does write quite a bit...to me, his son, and mom/dad. I think he'll go back to piggy backing letters, where I am delivering letters to his family. He hates spending money on stamps and envelopes!! I wish I could just send him stamps on USPS, but then again, he uses stamps for letters and not for gambling!!

Oh and yes...thanks for noticing my ticker is now under a year...it's been a very long road and I just want it over with!! He says time has stood still inside, I say it's been flying like crazy on the outside. I countdown the weeks, and months, he counts down till our next visit!!

Default Keefe again

I can offer you no help except moral support. I'm aggravated as my husband just wrote me and told me this, and coffee...His LAST REMAINING "substance" that he drinks and enjoys...has DOUBLED! ARGH! He said Doritos are over $3 but I don't know what size the pkg is...he said they used to be $0.89. He is kinda happy to see Carnation Instant Breakfast on the list. He said some hygeine products have gone down a little, but one item that he used to buy because he could use it without getting rashed from it is no longer available.

Hang in there!

Default New Store List

If I attached this right - the three pdf files are the latest store list from Keefe. The font is teeny tiny! Anyway, this should give us some idea of prices and what's been changed.
Attached Files
File Type: pdf clothing.pdf (172.7 KB, 71 views)
File Type: pdf Food and supplies.pdf (116.8 KB, 65 views)
File Type: pdf Personal care and supplies.pdf (148.4 KB, 59 views)

Found out about the shoes they are offering- Brand name is "V4orce" and the 3 models they offer are "Swagger" "Playmaster" or Nitrous. Inmates don't get a picture, but one is velcro and one is a mid-rise lace up and the third is a running shoe. I copied the pics of each type and sent it to my son. They don't look like they will last very long.

Default Commissary List

My husband said it's not a big deal for someone to get the list, all they have to do is take it to the library and ask for someone to make a copy and then mail it out. Only like 10% of outgoing mail gets checked. So maybe if you want to see it real bad he can do that and get you a copy.

I heard packages we supposed to be able to be ordered at the 1st of the year.

I called them to ask about packages and other questions. I had to leave a message with the Arizona office so keeping my fingers crossed I will get a call back.

Good for you 11 months...I've been trying to get a ticker on mine, but I'm not doing something right. It's always late at night when I try...what am I doing wrong?

It looks like they took off the majority of the "name brand" items. Several things my husband orders (ordered) on a regular basis that were name brand are not on the list, but a generic brand is there. Just an observation. I'm not opposed to generics out here, sometimes they're better in addition to being less expensive. But I doubt Keefe's idea of "generic" probably equates to "crappy."

Woo hooo!!!! They called me back and packages are in the works. They are still working on it so we just have to be patient. You will be able to order online or there will be an 800#. This will be for FOOD items only!!!

I will make it a point to call twice a month to see where they are at with these, so I will keep you posted on any info I get.

SWEET!!! I love that this option is available. Paulie gets so sick of the same food every week, even with commissary, there's not that much of a difference day in and day out.

In fact, I'm getting tired of all the visitation food as well.

Actually, to be honest with you, I'm sick and tired of everything about prison!

Waaa waaa waaaa, whine whine whine!!

Thank you. That helps. I am glad I asked. Bc I was thinking he was just being spoiled. Gosh! Hope I didn't yell at him for being greedy! lol. It's a shame everything is such cheap quality. I understand, but still. What do ppl do who don't have anyone helping them out?
