Default My Son saving a life!

I wanted to tell this story to other parents!

After talking with me last Friday night, my son was walking back to his bunk when he noticed some men standing together. He said, "what's up?". And the one guy said that he was worried that someone had done something to his meds, or given him the wrong ones, because he felt awful!

My son noticed he was slurring his words, and asked him if the side of his felt numb? He said "Yes! The whole side of my body feels tingly and numb!". So my boy tells him to just stay there and sit down, then goes to the emergency communication device for the cop who oversees his dorm, and just says "Code blue for (name)!". The EMT's came quickly and the man was taken to the ER. Sure enough, he was having a stroke!

Next day, the nurse told my son about him, and said he had really done well, catching the stroke early, and probably, at mini,um, saved some of his bodily functions, by catching the stroke early. I am SO proud of him! He's such a good man! The nurse said he should have a reward, and he said..."fruit, I want fruit!". Bless his heart.

My Son started the Humane Society for animals in Shreveport, was a volunteer for dozens and dozens of activities! He really cares about others! He's been a good boy his whole life! That seems to have been his undoing when it came to a young woman, who said she was in distress. She lied!

Spiffy heart
Mother of a really really good son

Let him eat fruit! I had to lol at that, I always get my son fruit cups to go with his sandwiches at our lunch visits. He loves his fruit too.
Good on your son! You have every right to be proud of him, I'm proud of him!! I love these kinds of posts! Cheer cheer!! I hope and pray someday soon something happens to prove your son is innocent. I sing that old song by Bob Dylan " I Need a Miracle Every Day!" all the time, I'm expecting one any day now.

What a story! So pleased your son was in the right place at the right time and took enough notice, and had the guts to do something. Other outcomes were so possible here. He is truely a hero!
Please tell him we are all cheering for him :-)

wow! how wonderful that your son didn't stand around doing nothing - but took some action! Kudos to him! (when i saw my son the other day he said he was getting sick of apples - they get them at every meal - the only fruit he sees . . .wish I could pass your son a bushel full of apples!) Be proud!

Wow. What a great story. What an awesome son you have.

I think you should submit a Recall of Commitment Request to the Secretary of Corrections for his extra-ordinary behavior of being a hero and life-saver.

Nice way to end my day reading your post

THANK YOU all for the kudos'! Yes, I'm a proud mama.....as you can tell lol. He wants fruit because he was told when he went there, the men took the fruit back to the dorms to ferment, and make alcohol!!! They don't serve ANY fruit! Fresh, canned....nada! I'm wondering if it's because it's a privately run facility, and they don't want to pay the high cost of fruit? Just being a little suspicious of motivations here...........

That is great that your son knew the signs of an impending stroke. There is an easy acronym for the signs and I can't remember it now.Sadly, a little bread, sugar and fruit makes alcohol. One of the names for it is "hooch".Fruit is usually still given at meals. It would become contraband if removed from the dining areas.I also love that your son helps animals.Thank you for posting about your son's quick thinking,it was really great to read!

Default Signs of a stroke

The acronym for signs of a stroke, everyone should learn this because time is so crucial!

The most common symptoms of stroke can be remembered by the acronym FAST:
Face. Ask the person to smile. A stroke can cause one side of the face to droop. Abrupt dimming of vision or a sudden, severe headache with no known cause are also warning signs.

Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. If one arm drifts downward, that could signal a stroke, which can trigger weakness, numbness or paralysis of an arm or leg, particularly on one side of the body.

Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Stroke victims may slur their words, have trouble speaking or understanding speech, or not be able to talk at all.

Time. If the person has any of these symptoms, call 911. Stroke is a life-or-death emergency in which every minute counts.

What moms notice...LOL! How about when he wasn't permitted in the yard, inside 24/7 and I got into my head he needed vitamins. Especially vitamin-D. Well, I'm ashamed to say, I embarrassed the heck out of him! Poor guy.... I wrote the Warden, who contacted the nurse, who called me that he would need a prescription for vitamins.....on and on. Oh BOY, when my boy was told to go to medical because of what his mother had done.....geesh! Was he "annoyed"! This has been such a darned big learning curve for us! I have had to learn a lot of ugly stuff about the law, and God forsaken Louisiana.

My head is spinning.
