I mean maybe the fact it's not allowed is your personal reason for opinion on the matter but it's not "the end of it" because it's a question that has nothing to do with whether it's allowed or not. After all if it were "the end of it" it wouldn't even have been possible for this question to enter OP's head.

Also cell phones are not illegal lol, they're just against the "rules" for strawmen who are incarcerated. Huge difference.

Or at least if it was presented as "illegal" somewhere then your state's fucked up! But then aren't they all lol? But it's certainly not considered illegal everywhere!

Ok, and your point is? She wrote what she thought about "her" inmate having a cell phone. Or, more correctly, she wrote about "some" inmates having a cell phone. And that was cause for you to come back at her in a derogatory manner? I don't think so.

You're grasping at strawmen here. The fact of the matter is that it IS illegal for inmates to have cell phones in prison. If I didn't clarify that for you in my first post, I apologize. Most people on here would rather that their loved ones don't pick up another charge for having contraband in prison.

As for having a cell phone in prison. It would be lovely if we could contact our loved ones whenever we want, or whenever they want without having to pay the high cost through the system. However, that's not the way it works, and we all know that.

Now that is out of the way, what I was trying to do in a nice polite way was to tell you that it was unnecessary for you to jump on Empress that way.

I would love to see the prisons implement some sort of cell/texting service. You can lock cell phones for your children, designate numbers they can call what times they can call and how much $$ they can use per day to make calls/texts...you can enable/disable MMS messaging.. how much easier it would be to be able to txt situations that arise instead of missing a call and having to explain why later. Now while I agree that prisons should implement this I don't feel inmates should have one smuggled in... Really? And those that do just feed the statistics on future rehabilitation...or future prison job security..

If your going to push the limits with contraband in Prison..how can you expect the parole dept probation debt family friends etc to believe you have really changed???

I've been thinking along these same lines myself, the technology exists so it would be possible to implement some type of cell phone service that could be safeguarded for security purposes, so why can't they do this? If the phone companies are worried about losing income, I'm sure they could design a way for this to work for them. Probably sell them at commisary or something (probably for a ridiculous price LOL)

I think if it were legal to have cell phones then it would be awsome like if they had a way to program them so that they can only call certain people but considering it is illegal I think it would be stupid to have one. Why take the risk of having it and catchion more time. I know a couple of people who have them but neither of them are my spouce. I would go off on him if he did, he should think of me and how hard it is on me too before he even thinks about making a dumb mistake like that.

Honestly I don't see the huge problem with it accept that it's not allowed in prison. I wouldn't want my brother to risk getting caught with one or having one for that matter. Yeah it'd be nice to talk to him whenever I want without paying $9 a call but I'd rather him be on the safe side. Where my brother is at in AL if you get caught with a phone or something u lose visits, phone for 6 months and you go to seg for 6 months and u can lose all chances of parole ad all that.

Cell phones are considered contraband and if an inmate cannot follow rules in a prison, how the hell are they going to obide by the rules "out here"? Not gonna happen!

Peace~

It's not a good thing that's for sure. But IMO they should get a lil more than a slap on the wrist for being caught with one. Here in CA I think I read the most they give you is 90 days. My man was caught with a phone before and he got 30 days, that's nothing! This was before he and I met. Also, they should be cracking down on the CO's... how do they think these phones are getting in there?? Aren't they are the ones that go through metal detectors?? Its just a bad situation but honestly I don't think it's going to be controlled. It's like drugs in prison, they'll probably always be around

I think its just s bad idea all around. Your in prison for a reason, not to make cell phone calls and text all day. Especially when there's so many classes and programs you could be taking advantage of.

Sure, how awesome would it be if they could call and text? I'd love that, but its illegal and as inmatelover stated, if they can't follow the rules in prison, what makes you think they can do so when their out?

My man knows better. I'd be furious if he decided to partake in something so stupid. And I agree the nurses and c/o's are the ones bringing them in and if the Inmates are being punished, I think they should be punished twice as bad because its their job to keep the shit out, so if their bringing it in, IMO its worse than a visitor smuggling it in.

Every day brings me one day closer to you....<3

They don't only trace the numbers the inmates call but in most prisons they record the actual call. The money it would cost to put that kind of technology in a prison to receive the information off from every cell phone would be ridiculous. One of the reasons calls are so expensive is because the state has to recoup the costs from recording the phone calls and listening in to see if criminal activity is happening. They have to do this so that people in cannot just call someone on the outside and commit criminal activity. It sucks that families usually end up paying and I think that the cost is outrageous but it is there for a reason. Even if you are approved to talk doesn't mean your calls aren't monitored.

This is something I just absolutely loathe. Thankfully, cell phones aren't an issue in my guy's facility. But if he ever called me on a cell phone, trust and believe I wouldn't be answering his calls. I've been doing it the legal way for 6 years and will continue to.

Cell phones along with many other things are illegal here in Canadian prisons as well. The same is true here too that many of these items enter the prisons by the staff - CO's and non-CO's. Indeed, visitors do bring illegal items in and many go uncaught but way more are caught. Certainly it would be nice to have unlimited telephone access to your loved ones and not pay for the expensive phone calls that clearly some private company is making a mint from. But our loved ones are inside because they did something against the law - for the most part. So why would we encourage and/or support them engaging in an activity that in the long run hurts us all?
