Are they still taking a long time to complete marriages? I just found this online when searching for info on marrying a CA inmate. I dont know if this info applies to us in COR though. what do you think?

In California, before the County Recorder will issue a marriage license, they require three (3) identifications. These identifications will be from the bride, groom and the officiant who will be performing the wedding ceremony. The IDs must be original, valid, and in good condition. Then you must obtain an "Inability to Appear" package from the County Recorder, or we can mail, fax or email this package to you.
The package consists of the "Procedures for obtaining a marriage license when one party is unable to appear", the "Affidavit of Inability to Appear" form, and the "Marriage License Application." The notary will have the incarcerated person sign both the affidavit of inability to appear and the marriage license application. The inability to appear form must be notarized. (For Men's Central Jail, it is suggested, if possible, that you get his signature notarized at his court hearing).
After this process, the bride or groom, and the officiant, must appear together at the County Recorder with all 3 valid IDs, the notarized inability to appear form, and the completed and signed marriage license application. The request for the marriage license is processed, the required license fee is paid, and the marriage license is issued the same day if you arrive early enough.
Once you have your marriage license, you can pick a date and follow the facility's procedures for inmate weddings. After being approved, notify the wedding officiant of the date, time and facility that you would like the wedding ceremony to take place. The officiant will show up at the facility on the date and time you have chosen and perform your wedding ceremony. The wedding ceremony usually takes place during normal visiting hours through glass.
After the ceremony, the officiant will complete the wedding license and file it with the County Recorder. After the filing of your marriage license/certificate, a certified copy of your marriage license/certification can be obtained after 6 to 8 weeks of the filing. Expedited service of your license/certificate is available through Express Mail. This request must be made at the same time the marriage license/certificate is being turned in to the County Recorder by the officiant. Please call us at 1.888.400.7671 for more information.

This may be a dumb question, but are the marriages on hold? See i am coming from calipatria to the sny yard and I had submitted my application over at calipatria and just when i did the marriages got put on hold and now that we have to move they are starting at calipatria. So are they conducting marriages at this time over at corcoran? and if so what is the process? any help will be greatly appriciated. thanxs

How do you get the inability to appear form and the birth certificate notarized for your man when they are in shu?
Are those two items the only paperwork that needs a notarization?
What other two forms of ID would an inmate give to be married (other than obtaining a notarized copy of the birth certificate) and how can they be "original" and valid. His California ID is expired and in CDC posession. He has no other forms of ID.
What other hurdles must be crossed for a shu inmate to get married?
Thanks!

I can't answer most of your questions and if you find out the answers to my questions posted above then I would love to know the answers.
The shu weddings are behind glass with no contact allowed ,even to kiss or exchange rings

Hello girls!
I have some questions about marriage at COR as well - is there anybody over here who recently got married at COR? I received the marriage application form and I was wondering what is included in the $ 168 - does that include the fee for the minister (and how do I find one) and the marriage license? What steps do I have to take after sending in the marriage application and what is arranged by the prison? I hope someone over here can answer my questions and knows more about the process from start to end, since it's hard to find any information about it at all!

The fee will include everything, license, minister and one other thing I was married in the shu 2 yrs ago and had to make 3 money orders totaling that amount 1for license,1 for minister and 1 one I believe was court fees(filing)...the paper that read sent to me had little information so I called the education dept st the time they were handling all marriages...u can call and ask who is handling marriages (get there ext) and they will explain everything..its actually very easy

Thank you Wicked Love, so I guess Corcoran takes care of all the paperwork etc.? That almost sounds too easy So you don't have to pick up the marriage license yourself, or meet with the officiant before the wedding? The marriage application is on its way, so hopefully it will get approved soon...

Lol, It's pretty easy, yes they do everything and the license will be mailed directly to you. You will meet the minister at the beginning of your visit...make sure you schedule for a 2hr visit I that day ...There should be contact info on the application what dept did you send it to? The hard part is waiting for them to get back to you it must be approved by counselor (he was the slowest) then asst warden...

So- D sent me the form, and I never got it... he said the guy in charge of the paperwork/forms is out on vacation or something, so D's gonna send me another one... It's kind of strange that I have gotten every letter he's sent me... but not that ONE letter that came with the form enclosed. I don't know... But I AM glad I read this because otherwise I would have been TOTALLY caught off guard about the fee of $168. Time to start saving I guess!

Got the form!! Now I just have to search for my divorce papers (a mistake when I was 18 that didn't even last 6 months...). But, is it selfish of me to be thinking that I might want to wait to get married until I can actually kiss my husband? He's waiting to get transferred back to another prison...

He has to ask his counselor for the packet and then either either you send it to him or you can send it directly to his counselor.

Hi everyone! So- I got the marriage application, and I don't see anywhere on there a $168 fee... So- is it going to cost me? I just don't know what all I have to do. I'll fill out this form and send it back, but am I going to have to pay anything or put $ on his books or something?

The 1st one he sent came in the mail a few days after the 2nd one he sent did... it looks like it just got lost in the mail for a month or two... Are you familiar with this fee that someone was talking about? I don't see anything on the application about it.

Thanks!!

I would guess that they will request the fee money after you are approved when they are setting the date, finding the minister and so forth.
Please let me know what steps you have to take from start to ceremony,if you get time.
