Is he a permanent inmate at the Reception Center? If he's just passing through (in transit or in reception) he won't be allowed visitors at the reception center.

He is only passing thru but has been allowed visits. I went yesterday and will be there again today I just want a little info on it incase he's there for a little bit, but if u just got to recp. from a county jail I believe u are not allowed visits at that time. I thought he couldn't get visits either from what I read on here since he's not a perm. but I called and they said as long as u are an approved visitor u can visit at recp. centers unless they are in confinment or visitation has been suspended.

My boyfriend was transferred from county jail to south florida reception center June 15 and we have not heard anything from him.. no letters no phone calls!! How long does it usually take? Should I send him paper and such or can he buy it there? I sent money as soon as he got there..

Ok, I know I should be a vet at this but...........it's been such a long time. I have a question.. when arriving at SFRC from county, when do they allow you to send in your visitation application? I thought you could send it immediately but had to wait until they were either transferred or were a perm party to visit. They told me I can't even send them until after 45 days or to just send to Fred and he will turn the application in when he can. The latter I don't think is true unless they changed things.

Last I heard, if you try to send a viso app directly to an inmate they will confiscate it in the mailroom and send it to Classification. Since he probably won't be there 45 days, wait until he moves to send it in.

Just a reminder for those being transfered through SFRC......they must have BoBo's to go to the VP. At least that was the rule a year ago.

My husband has been locked up for a 18 months exactly today. He has been transferred to several facility from Miami to Broward to Pass Ft. Myers back to Miami. My husband as been to SFRC before and he is back in SFRC as a transit. I have been able to talk to him on the phone and visit him. However, I've had to speak to his classification officer for other reasons. The vibe that I recieved from his classification officer was not good at all. After, I spoke to his classification officer. My husband is not able to make phone calls nor am I able to visit him. I called his classification officer again to see what is going on. She said nothing that she doesn't know anything about why he isnt calling me. She tells me that he is a new process and that he cant have any visitation and he hasnt turned in his phone list. I explained that I have been approved previously and that I have gone to visit him and talk to him on the phone. She just doesnt want to hear it.

I am afraid to call the classification officer again. Actually, I am not afraid of calling the classification officer. I am more concerned of what else can she do to my husband if I continue calling her.

I don't know what to do. I haven't heard from my husband at all not via phone, letter, or thru a message via other inmates family members. Should I call the classification officer or just call her supervisor directly.?? If anyone has dealt with this before please help me. Or give me your opinion. Im very concern andI dont know how to go about this.

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks,

First - this is dumb, but did you check the Securus account and make sure there is money in it? That's happened to us multiple times.

You said you couldn't visit...how do you know this for sure? Did you try and were turned away? Maybe you can actually visit if you tried and the CO doesn't know what she's talking about.

It sounds like the CO is confused and assuming for some reason that if your husband is at SFRC and you are calling about visitation/phone that he is in reception and she's just giving you the standard reception answers. She maybe didn't bother to pull him up on the computer?

You need to try to communicate with other people besides the CO about this issue. You could try SFRC's phone person to check on your husband's phone status with them. And when all else fails...call Tallahassee and ask them what is up with your husband since SFRC doesn't even seem to know if he's in reception or not.

Key thing to communicate: "my husband is not in reception - he's been at DOC for 18 months already."

It isn't dumb. Trust me. I checked the account that was the first thing I did just to be on the safe side.

The CO says that I can't. However, till now I have been allowed to see him. Thanks God.

I spoke to his CO last Friday. This is what his CO told me. She looked him up but she don't see nothing wrong with his phone situation. Then said that he didnt turn in his phone list. I' like wll he must've because we've been speaking on the phone. This when she got bent out of shape. However, The last time I saw my husband he told me he been visiting his CO all week bc of the phone situation. She knew all along that he has been having problems and she didn't even mentioned it to me. Honestly, I just feel like she don't give three craps.

What do you mean that he isnt in reception? Thank you for your help.

Reception is when they are at a reception center like SFRC undergoing intake to DOC from a county jail. But if your husband transferred to SFRC from another DOC facility (not county jail) he's not undergoing the DOC reception process.

Is it possible that the CO misidentified your husband when she looked him up - that the computer screen she was looking at was for another inmate? She could have mistyped the DC # you gave her, or misspelled a name or something?

Hello Everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some information about SFRC?
(He is sentenced, so he staying there).
-Okay so I'm wondering about visitation? Is it like County? Their behind plexiglass or is it like in the movies (sorry for sounding so naive) you sit at tables and you can actually talk face to face?
-How long is the visit for? 30 minutes? 45 minutes? If its longer do you share your time with the rest of his visitors?
-Is it only on the weekends? or weekdays and am or pm times?
-Phone calls, for County when he would call me it showed up on caller ID as a Texas number since the inmate calling service was out of Texas. So, I was wondering how the phone system work? Does it show a Miami Dade area code or a toll free #?

I know thats alot of information to give someone but i would really and truly appreciate any info.

He hasn't called me, he was booked in this week.
Again Thank-you for any help!

The answers to your questions are the same no matter where he ends up. Rules for phone and visitation are the same at all DOC facilities statewide. You should go browse in the Mail & Phone and Visitation forums to learn more, but here's the basics.

Visitation is from 9-3pm eastern time Saturday and Sunday at all facilities. You may go when they open and stay all day if you'd like, as long as they don't run out of room. Visitation is what is called "contact" - you sit at tables together. You get one hug and kiss hello and goodbye. Inmates may have 5 adult visitors at once. (The only exception to this is visitation in Close Management - extremely high custody. Those visits are very short, only like once a month, and through glass.) You have to apply for visitation privileges. The application form is in the visitation forum, but you can't submit it until he is placed at a permanent camp. Inmates can't have visitors (or even apply for visitation) during reception and their transit to their permanent camp.

Phone calls at DOC-run facilities (not the private ones) are through Securus. It shows up on caller ID as a few different things. Sometimes as "800 service". It's an 888 number, never a local number. He won't be able to call you until he turns in a phone list and it is approved. He can only call numbers on his approved list. You'll need to set up an account with Securus and put money on it, also. it's possible to get approval for certain cell numbers but not all types. It's difficult. You have to jump through a lot of hoops. See the phone forum for info.

Visitation is both sat and Sunday from 9-3. No plexiglass. Face to face. Everyone goes to reception before they go to there permanent camp. If he's wearing white he will be staying, if he's wearing blue then he's just passing thru before he get to his permanent camp.

The time it takes to process him does not change, no matter how many previous commitments to prison he's had. He should be at the reception center for at least a month. There is no set amount of time in place for DOC to process him back in to the system.
As far as when he'll be able to make calls, that depends on how quickly you're able to get a copy of the bill, with your name, address, and telephone number so he can submit it to classification for approval. It usually takes around a month, so be ready to wait. Good luck!

Default Sfrc visitation

I recently visited my hubby who was transfered to sfrc before going to his main facility. As long as you have been approved you can visit. They are very strict (to who they choose) about the dress code your jeans or pants cant be tight and if they are its best to wear a HUGE shirt with it. You can where a long sundress of course no cleavage showing and they allow open toe shoes. Other than tje dress code visitation was nice they allow you to sit side by side and dont interrupt your visit too much
