I feel sorry for both of you. This treatment is no walk in the park. It is in fact quite exhausting and not at all easy to deal with. I fully understand how each of you feel. It is not easy to have someone sick and not be able to be there for them.

If the side effects continue to be severe, they will stop the treatment. If he has already had 5-6 months of treatment and is continuing, that shows me that he probably has genotype 1a which is the toughest to treat.

The next 2 months should be very revealing. Hopefully by then, the side effects will be less or they will have stopped the treatment.

i am going thru the new tx myself and when i was sick they lowered my dose, people dont get in prison usually unless getting tattoos, it can stay dormant for a very many years. there is so much out there people just dont understand. I hope he is able to handle the treatment i had over a 3 million viral load and am now undetectable and had the hardest to get rid of there are three strengths of the virus..prayers are with you

He had it before he went back in I think he got it while he pulled his time last time... not really sure, I know he had it when we got together. He's takin a shot in his stomach I think he said once a week and it still makes him sick but not near as sick :/ Theyve also got him taking vitamin E and B. Ill just be glad when hes home so I can take him to Dr.s here on the outside, and Ill know everything thats goin on. Thanks you guys.

Actually, so far, it sounds like they are following the guidelines for treatment. I think that people do not realize until their loved one is on it, that the treatment has enormous side effects- some are very debilitating and others not so much. He would have the side effects even at home.

It is just that if he were home, there would be more comfort measures available than there are in prison.

Yea I know, I've just never had to deal with the treatments with him b4, honestly I never even knew the treatments were available. He says hes not gettin as sick ne more thankfully He had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago to see if he would be finished taking them in 8 weeks now 6 or see if he had to continue them when he came home. Im really worried about him comin home tho, he's wantin to try and work, but I feel like he will get sick... and honestly the money isnt worth him coming home sick every night I just dk what to do

It will be a while and several blood tests before he knows whether he's clear or not. The side effects of the shots can be awful, but they don't last.

My husband also has Hep C and is working towards getting treated. As long as the blood work shows everything good then yes technically your man is cured. It will be up to him to take good care of his liver now that it is healthy Good luck to you both!

I am so glad to hear he is getting better. My cousin had it for 4o years and responded well to the treatment and has since been cleared. But he did tell me the side effects were hell, my 24 yr old son just got diagnosed with it, ( he was an iv drug user) and we are waiting for his appt where they can biopsy it and see which strain he has.

It is very encouraging that his lab work shows improvement. The hallmark for Success is called "Sustained Viral Response or SVR" which means zero level viral titere done f months after treatment is stopped AND biopsy that shows no active virus.
If he is Not genotype 1a, his chances are very good.

This is only true if the lab work is done 6 months after treatment has finished AND a biopsy shows no active disease.
If the good labs were done sooner- it just means the treatment is working
