Default Is he locked down all day?

Is anyone else's man locked down all day? At Jesse's facility he is locked down 23 hours a day. I've seen a lot of prison shows though where they have dayrooms where the guys can sit all day. So how is it at your man's facility? Is he locked down all day or does he have free range?

Dang 23? Mine is only now because he's in the box!
Before he was more 'free'.. because he could go to gym, outside rec, he was in an A.R.T program & bilingual class..then always calling me ha.. ;( he enjoyed not being in a cell all day.. did attend N.O.I class but at this last facility wasnt many ppl attendin.. and had just got a job shortly before going to the box!...so I know he's going nuts now.. it was more like a camp he'd say, because he wasn't locked in his cell much...

To be freely from 6am til about 10 pm then go to the box for 23 hrs.. eek I feel for him, I do! But atleast he has a bunkie lol someone to talk to right??

Mine is in a medium, green clothes camp so they have lots of freedom. They have a perimeter and fences but they walk outside alone to see their caseworkers and what not. There's a guard at a watch tower but yea they have a lot of freedom where he is now, its wonderful.

Every day brings me one day closer to you....<3

If the inmates have a job or go to school or church, then they're let out of their cells. As well as to go to chow, shower, go to yard or see the doc or go to the library.

My BF's in general population at a medium federal so he has to report to work in the morning and work till lunch time and then he's free to do whatever he wants till 9pm, that's when they're locked down for the night until the cells are opened again at 6am.
Is your BF in the SHU, is that why he's locked down for 23 hours a day? That sounds horrible, how does he manage?

Thats just how this prison is I guess. He's not in SHU or anything like that. The whole prison is locked down 23 hours a day. On Mondays he gets to go outside for a while for rec. But otherwise they get out 1 hour a day for showers and phones (although they have specific call days for each unit, his is M-W-F) and of course they get out for chow and stuff. He doesn't really manage lol. His celly has a tv so he watches tv but the guy is about to get out so idk what he's gonna do then!

Is that even legal? The US judiciary and penal system reminds me of China, North Korea and many African countries in the way inmates are treated, the harsh punishments and children and mentally sick people being sentenced to lengthy prison time. It's crazy that it's allowed, that they can get away with it, it just amazes me that the UN and Amnesty International is not doing anything about it.... I think the US judiciary system is an embarrassment to the entire western world!

@mallafri: I'm not really sure! I'm sure that Patty or another mod from the IL forum know more about it. But he has told me it's the worst prison in the state. I'm not sure how the other prisons in IL work but I've heard a lot of them have dayrooms that they are in all day. So idk if any others are locked down like this or if it's just this one. It's a medium security, so I'm guessing some of the max ones are locked down most of the day too.

Mine is in shu and will serve any time he does from now on in shu.
No good time,no contact visits, not much food and only one package a year, minimal commisary allowance,etc...
Ah the joys of gang validation.
Thank God he has an out date in less than four years!

awwww that has to be hard to only be out one hour a day - I can't even imagine. No, my husband has free range all day, he is in a minimum security facility.

My guy is at a camp. He gets to walk around wherever he wants, he's even allowed to go about twenty feet from the main road. They're allowed to drive trucks and everything.

My guy is in a IL med security place and it is nothing like that. He has a lot more freedom than I would think in a prison. They do have day rooms, do their own laundry, play cards and watch tv. They have new movies shown twice a month. I has seen movies that I have not seen yet! Some of them pool stuff together and make dinner for the unit so things can't be that bad. He said that the setup is more like a dorm than a prison. I don't think that they have bars on the windows.

What place is your guy at? I would ask to be transferred out before they start closing Il prisons. There are a couple set to be closed down be Aug 30th. This sound horrible. Sounds like Statesville but I thought that was for Max and reception. Yes Patty would be the one to talk to.

Sorry that he is going through this especially now. It feels like 110 in IL right now and the break won't come until Sunday night. My Babe is dying in this heat. They are showering 5 to 7 times a day just to cool down. I can't picture him being lkocked down 23 hours. They are on lock down now and have more freedom than your guy does everyday. We are truly blessed once we hear how bad others are having it.

He's at Lawrence. Yes I know at Stateville they are locked down 23 hours a day too. I saw an episode on Lockdown about Stateville. That place looked horrible!

I'm sure it's sweltering hot there! I just recently found out that they can open their windows but even like a month ago he was super miserable cuz he had no fan so I sent him money to get a fan. He got it like a week later. He was so thankful! I'm sure it's worse now! I know here in Iowa it's been close to 100 degrees.

If he had more time left I would probably tell him to try and be transferred (East Moline would be great cuz I live in the area!) but he only has 41 and a wake up and hopefully he's never going back!

Glad that he has little time left. My guy too. 19 and a wake up. I wish that I could bring him home now. It is so hot and he is miserable. Sick by is too full so I know from that that guys are passing out left and right. So sad and inhumane not to have better means of cooling them down. The tax payers are getting ripped off anyways so buy them a damn air conditioner for each unit. At least in the day rooms. It just makes me mad to think about.
