Default Update - He's sober!! - Thank you all for the support

First I want to thank all of you for letting me vent here at the end of last year when my son was drugging and stealing and ended up in jail.

My son has been a heroine addict since he was 16, he is now 24 and I have gone thru the rollercoaster of emotions, him stealing from me and him robbing is work to get dope. Last November he once again ended up in jail for theft. He was looking at 3 years with all his charges.

I found a law in Ky called caseys law where the family of an addict can have the addict sentenced to rehab usually one year and if they dont complete it then they go back to jail. I was lucky enough to get a judge who suspended his sentence, gave him probation and then sent him to rehab.. that was on Dec 13th of last year.

As of today my son has been at the Grateful life treatment center in KY since dec. I found out last week my son will be graduating the program in 7 more days HE HAD ZERO SET BACKS.. and has been sober since then.
He was offered a job at the center as a pier mentor and although he will be out of the "program" as a pier mentor he can continue to live there for up to 6 more months although he will be able to come and go as he pleases except for when he has to work.

I am so proud of him and so glad I filed the caseys law paperwork. Will he stay sober... that I dont know.. but I know at least for today he is sober and has an aftercare program in place.

I just wanted to share this with you guys and thank you again for being here when I needed to vent!!! I was here sharing the bad times and thought I would share the happy times...

hugs to you all

Lisa

I love Casey's law!!! When people are given a trial run after this then slam them down, this is closer to Justice!!! I am so happy for all of you!!

I've never heard of Casey's law. Not even sure MS has it. Very glad it worked out for your loved one.

tylers momma caseys law started in KY here is the link that explains it better, I had no idea it existed and a woman my son stole from told me about it
https://sites.google.com/site/caseys...me/casey-s-law

charlotte who is caseys mother is working to get it implemented in other states

I am not sure it was ment for people who were ALREADY IN JAIL but my sons judge set a precident and I know of one other person who was let out of jail to do treatment since my son was allowed to leave jail for rehab..

JuliannRn I did see where Ohio had a similar law I believe charlotte helped with that happening there as well I am so happy to hear she is sober....its just helps to know there is hope out there. As bad as things became for my kid, and as tough as I had to be with him by kicking him out and watching him live as a homeless person I always had a little hope for him.. and I am glad I held onto that
