Heard the same thing. Not really holes being cut in fence. Cutting ties on fence and then pushing the fence out is more what was done. Heard about a tunnel too. All this probably to pick up parcels and bring things in. Heard tensions are very high.

On the Joint Military Base Maguire-Dix-Lakehurst Facebook Page: "JB MDL, you may have noticed the smoke in the area. A fire is currently burning in one of our ranges; however, it is contained and does not currently pose any risk to the base or surrounding community. We will provide you updates as we receive them."

Well, I have good news to share. My brother is home after 3 and a half years. It is a really good feeling right now. I know this mayy be hard to hear for a few that have a longer time to wait for this to happen...my heart does go out to you and I know there is pain there. I know your time will come though too.

He is settling in. Re-connecting with family and good neighbors. Getting first steps taken care of. He is hoping to go to work the middle of this week. My parents are thrilled to have him back home, as are me and my sister.

He was told he was going direct to home confinement since there was a 5 month waiting list to get into the HWH in the jurisdiction. Actually did wind up spending a week at the HWH though, but is home now.

With his anxiety and all the unknowns it was a bit stressful right before he left the FCI and then the journey home. But once at the HWH he was able to settle down a bit and was okay there.

The journey home wound up being an overnight journey unfortunately instead of travel during the day like we thought it would be. This added to the stress. For some reason there were only two buses that day from the local bus stop to NYC when usually there are at least one or two more. They did not get him out to the bus stop in time to make the 8:30 AM bus. Got him there in the afternoon and then the next bus was not until 6:30 PM. So he had to take that one and then wait in NYC until bus in the middle of the night from NYC to Boston and then had to wait until morning bus from Boston to the HWH up north. So was quite a trip..

He said the HWH has lots of rules and monitors every movement quite closely, but is okay. Not a bad place after all. He had been worried by all the rumors about the HWHs I think..

So my best to all. I will check in now and then and so appreciate being a part of this forum the past year and a half while he was at the FCI. It has been such a Godsend. And, I have such hope in this world now because there are so many wonderful amazing people I have met in this journey. Stay strong all. I am very committed to justice and prison reform and hope to continue efforts in this area. The system is so wrong and so broken and this journey has really opened my eyes to it.

We still have a way to go in the journey. It is not over. He is home on home confinement and then will be under probation for quite a few years. So feel like we are onto the next phase of the journey but not out of the woods. I still anticipate challenges for my brother and my family for sure. Love to all.

What did your son think of the RDAP at Fort Dix? My brother is in transit to Fort Dix to start the program. I would appreciate any information you could share on the program? Housing? Living arrangements? Are the units air conditioned? The instructors of the program? Do they eat with general population?
Thank you!

My son is on the east side...no AC in any of the units and it gets extremely hot in there! There are 6 bunks (for 12 people) in each unit and he has never complained about overcrowding. He said a lot of guys say that Ft. Dix is much better than where they were before. This is the only place my son has been so he can't compare it to anything else but says it's better than he expected.

I am having a bad day. Can't afford to visit my husband this year. He has requested a transfer closer to home and it was denied. He is over 800 miles from home, and has been gone for almost two years, all at Ft. Dix. I have been able to visit 3 times, so far, but money is too tight right now. He has never been in trouble there, worked every day, and they tell him NO. What the heck is that all about?? Once again it is all about the $$$$$$$ they make from us that are suporting our loved ones. His health is good for a man of 65, but they claim the place he wants to transfer to cannot fill his medical needs? What they don't have high blood pressure meds there? Fort Dix is back up to full capacity and want to keep it that way.

Sorry you are struggling right now. I don't know how often you can apply for a transfer or if this will change anything but ft Dix is getting a new warden soon so maybe you can try again :-/ although I hate that my LO is in prison at all, I am very thankful that it is only an hour away. Best of luck to you and stay positive as best you can for yourself and also for your husband.

Sending hugs to you Nanna. Hoping something works out for you to visit. It is terrible that the request was denied at this point.

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts. He is going to appeal this decision, but now we are afraid they would send him farther yet. Wish us luck................

Does anyone know how an inmate can get to use email? I've heard of some using it and yet my son doesn't seem to be able to. Is that something you earn as a privilege or is it available to all inmates? He's only been there about 6 weeks so I'm wondering if it's too early for him to set up an account.
Thanks!

Have him talk to his counselor... I think everyone gets email but its a matter of getting access which if I remember right came from the counselor. Took about 3 weeks from my lo to get it and who knows how long had he not asked. His friend got it much sooner. Good luck!!

I will tell him that. I think he's still getting adjusted and that's reassuring to know!

It might be slow going for email, my husband put in a request a,month ago. They take their good ole time setting up email accounts.

Since Fort Dix is a Federal Prison, I've moved your thread there in hopes that you'll get more info. Good luck!

Boy - I'm having real trouble trying to figure out how to create a new post. Can anyone help me?
I wonder if they do anything special for Thanksgiving at Ft. Dix FCI? Haven't heard from my son in over 2 weeks and am starting to worry. Is this normal? He has only been there since August 7th and was calling and writing fairly often - but now just 'silence.' I wish he had email. It sure would make communicating with him easier!
