Good question, I have no idea what your talking about. But whenever in doubt, I call the unit and ask.

Everyone entering since roughly April 1994 enters at a Line Class I and remains there for at least six months. At that point in time, they are eligible for promotion to State Approved Trusty Class IV or higher. Some offenders will be promoted to an Outside Trusty status prior to that time, but would not receive the corresponding bump in time-earning status until the six-month window is satisfied...

Thanks CenTexLyn....what about the G1, G2, G3, etc......he in for a drug charge-nothing aggravated, got 2 years.....I'm concerned about contact visits. We are not married, and from what I read, if you are G1 you can have contact visits with anyone on your visitation list.

If I call where he is can they tell me that information? He just got picked up from county on Wednesday evening...is it too soon to tell? He is at Garza West right now.

Most are going to enter as a G2 unless there is a history of gang activity or prior escape in any manner from ANY agency or entity. Very few are promoted to G1 and even fewer are promoted to G1 off the bus from County.

G1, 2 3 etc is custody level where L1,2, 3, S4, 3 etc is good time earning status. G2 is basic general population and the custody level at which everyone enters TDC. L1 is the good time earning status at which everyone enters TDC. Custody level is the level of security applied to the inmates daily housing. G2 (G3 for those with very long sentences) is entry level where G4 and G5 is medium and close custody for those that have gotten in trouble. G1 is only for outside trusty which is the lowest custody level. Ad Seg (several different levels) is the most restrictive of custody levels.

Good time earning status is just what is sounds like and determines the rate at which an inmate earns good time. L1 entry level with L2 and L3 being reductions in good time earning status (L3 earns no good time) and S4 thru S1 increases in status. Most inmates advance only to S3, at best, which shares the highest rate of earning good time with S2 and S1. Both G1 and S2 are associated with those that make outside trusty. G1 is also outside trusty but is at a much higher level than most with those being trusted to drive vehicles for TDC and other such jobs.
