Default What do I have to look at as far as living arrangements when he comes home?

I am the mother of an inmate in Taylorville Correction Institute. He can get out as soon as I can find a place for him to live. What do I have to look at as far as living arrangements. I want him out and home as soon as possible. He should have been discharged May 18, but he does not have a place to live yet. I need to know the restrictions ASAP.
Thank you,
JRR

I've moved this to the Iowa forum so that you can get feedback from those most familiar with the applicable policies, standards and procedures.

Hi Janet, Welcome to PTO! I'm sorry there's been a bit of confusion; Taylorville is not in Iowa. Are you speaking of the Taylorville in Illinois?

Default Confusion

I believe there's a little confusion. My son is in Taylorville D.O.C. in Illinois. I have moved to Iowa and am wanting to locate here as soon as possible so my son can get discharged. What sort of restrictions does Iowa have? I am planning on getting a house here today, but can't if it's in a restricted area.
Please reply back as soon as possible as I am anxious to get him out now. His discharge day was May 18th , but I can't do anything until I find out what I can and can't do.
Thank you very much.

Oh, I see now. Thanks for clarifying. Your son is being paroled out, and you'd like him to come to Iowa..? I really don't know how that works. Has the Illinois parole board said he can do that? Does he have a PO in Iowa to report to? As far as restrictions... are you talking about living restrictions like specific distances from schools, etc? Or more like who he can live with...? I think we need a little more info to be able to help you.

Default Re: restrictons

Hi!
I mean regarding how far from schools, etc. can he live in the city (only 2000 people). I'm hoping he can live with me (his mother).
Right now I'm living with friends, but I need to get us a house. I'm sorry if I seem anxious, but he should have gotten out May 18th.
Sincerely and with respect,
Janet Rossi

Is he being paroled or discharged?

The only reason he would have restrictions like that is if he is a sex offender. (You do not have to acknowledge that on the boards if you don't want to.) I believe registered sex offenders must live at least 1000 feet away from places where children gather (schools, daycares, etc).

I think you should probably call his counselor at Taylorville and ask what you need to do or who to contact.
