Default Warren Hill GA ~ Stay Lifted

"Executing Warren Hill, a 52-year-old man whom a court has found to be more likely than not mentally retarded, would be a terrible miscarriage of justice," said Brian Kammer, one of Hill's lawyers. Kammer said he will ask the State Board of Pardons and Paroles to grant Hill clemency."

Yet a firm date will be set soon. My thoughts are with him and his supporters. The full article is here.

So sad. US Justice's thirst for blood seems not to be stopped.

I hope this delay will save Warren Hill's life....I hope he can get the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles to reconsider saving him in light of his mild intellectual disability, and other factors.

As a member of Amnesty International, I oppose the death penalty in all nations, and in all circumstances, but I am more opposed to some impending executions than others.

Do you really have any hope for Mr. Hill? They will murder him in cold blood, regardless of his mentally disability, and they'll do that with the "new" one-drug-injection as they did to Yakomon Hearn. Yakomon died 25 minutes long.

Optimism is very useful here, Willlove....we should always hold out for the best regarding the outcome of impending executions....sadly,you have a good point. Warren Hill will most likely not survive his rescheduled execution date of 23 July 2012. Our thoughts are with him, his family and friends.

Also, regarding the recently executed Mr. Hearn, his first name was 'Yokamon' not 'Yakomon'.

Of course, while there's life, there's hope. But not for black men in the South. That's not pessimism, but realism. Very sad.

This execution is still scheduled. A judge ruled against Mr Hill today but he does have appeals pending. The article is here. The main argument left seems to be regarding the change in protocol.

'Change to lethal injection protocol',mammastalkin? (re: Warren Hill)

Unfortunately for Warren Hill, a Fulton County judge, Craig Schwall, today has ruled against Mr. Hill's challenge to the change in Georgia's lethal injection protocol. Judge Schwall has declared that 'the lethal injection protocol changes do not violate the Administrative Procedures Act.'

Sorry if I cannot include the URL link to the exact article, but as I have not yet posted at least 25 times in these forum the site rules do not allow me to do so.

Has Mr. Hill now got any hope of avoiding execution tonight?

It's all in the link I posted. It seems his lawyers feel that the way the protocol changed constitutes an administrative error. The judge is hoping the state SC will make a final decision. He also has an appeal before the USSC in hopes that they will protect a mentally retarded person from execution. Neither are not encouraging but there is still some hope.

It's stayed! But now for the intellectual disability.

The court said it would decide whether the Department of Corrections' recent decision to switch its lethal-injection process from three drugs to one violates the state Administrative Procedure Act.

Can you just imagine the turmoil this man and his family and loved ones must be going through. Trying to get mentally prepared for the end, then a stay, then do it again, and then another stay. This is cruel punishment in of itself. Let's hope and pray this is the end of it and that the courts will stop the execution plans once and for all for this poor man.

That's barbarism. I can't believe that US justice seem not to see that death penalty in itself is cruel and inhumane. It's perverse, when they only prove whether the method of executions is cruel or not.

Georgia Will Execute An Intellectually Disabled Man Next Week Unless The Supreme Court Intervenes

By Nicole Flatow on Feb 11, 2013 at 12:20 pm
http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/...2026426673.jpgWarren Lee Hill.

While a series of procedural rulings have delayed execution for Warren Lee Hill, he faces imminent capital punishment by the state of Georgia a week from tomorrow, in spite of a U.S. Supreme Court decision that says executing the severely mentally disabled is unconstitutional. Hill, who was deemed “mentally retarded” at trial (an unfortunate legal term), has exhausted his appeals, and only U.S. Supreme Court action can stop his execution this time.

State of Georgia is going to murder a man that's undoubtedly mentally handicapped. The uniform position of all experts in this case is that Mr Hill is mentally retarded and it's a miscarriage of justice to execute him.

Hope and pray for a stay.

Hope fades that Warren Hill's life will be spared. State of Georgia killed Troy Davis, an innocent man, and now they will murder an intellectual disabled man. What a shame.
