If you will be using it in MN, here is a form from the MN government to download for free.

Nolo's great - I generally really like them. But, $16-$23 for a POA? wow. Look up the statute in your state code. Copy and paste the exact language of the Statutory form. Follow the rest of the instructions in that statute.

my understanding is that Legal Zoom does have documents actually reviewed by licensed attorneys, so for that reason, their fees make sense.

Not that it matters.....Nolo's site states that all of its forms are approved and updated by expert attorneys. I have used their books also (with great success in a civil suit filed against me in conjunction with my son's criminal case).

The County's law librarian suggested I use them.

The forms are the forms - they are in the statutes of your jurisdiction. The difference between Nolo updating from the Statutes to Legal Zoom is that Legal Zoom and similar providers of unbundled legal services usually review the data you input to catch errors.

If you just want the form, go to the statutes. If you want to make sure you've filled them out adequately, then unbundled legal services corporations are the way to go. If you want to make sure you have the current form, have filled it out adequately, and are following all other rules regarding POA, and know your rights and responsibilities, then get a private attorney.
