Default Separate charge and the implications

I'm praying that some of you experienced friends can help. LO is in TDC @ Garza West for drug charge. He just got there a couple weeks ago after waiting in county for over a month. Got 2 years. He has a separate charge in a different county that moves WAY slower than Harris County and the DA just decided to indict him about a week ago (The charge was from the beginning of May). My question is that this new charge is a state jail felony, which means it is different from the one he is currently serving out. How will this affect his time in TDC? I know that state jail felonies are served day for day and there is no parole, plus they have separate State Jail Facilities. Will he parole out of where he is now and then have to go to a State Jail Facility or will they likely transfer him to a State Jail Facility and that will run CC with his current sentence? I have a lot of questions and I hope I am making sense. Please help me figure this out If you need more information to help you let me know. THANKS!!!

I know Bartlett has State Jail inmates, and TDCJ, don't know if there are more facilities like this or not.
My son had State and TDCJ and they ran concurrent.

Make sure the detainer gets lodged to ensure that he gets appropriate credit if/when the other charge results in a disposition involving additional time.

The detainer will limit some programming options but otherwise shouldn't impact the time in TDCJ. The Board can still vote him for parole and if they vote favorably prior to the expiration of the SJF, then they would simply move him from a CID facility to a SJD facility and issue a new TDCJ number.

It would reasonably be expected to be concurrent (as opposed to consecutive). Whether he transferred and got a new number would have everything to do with the if/when the Board decided to release him from the present sentence...
