Default Inmate mistreatment assistance please

Hello All!

I have been a member of this site for a little while now & have never posted a thread however I am at a loss right now and any information that anyone can provider would be appreciated.

My Fiance' is currently in SHU awaiting transfer to another facility for 2 tier III tickets (on for dirty urine & one for extortion that he is currently appealing) & when I went to see him this weekend he told me that the officers are mistreating him. He got into an altercation with a female officer & she gave him a ticket for exposing himself to her. The ticket was written on Sat (8/4) yet he has not received any mail from me since Monday (7/30) & I write everyday & she refused to give him dinner on Sat night (8/4). There is NO way he will beat this ticket because when he had the hearing for the previous extortion ticket he was found guilty of coordinating a fight yet the 2 inmates that were charged with beating the other inmate up tickets were expunged so I do not even know how he could have coordinated a fight that according to the superintendent did not take place because the 2 inmates that were charged for the attack were in the yard at the time of the incident. So when he goes back in front of them for this ticket he will be found guilty & given more time in the SHU plus they are discussing revoking his visitation rights. I really just do not know what to do, I am so frustrated & I feel helpless.

I called Albany this morning to have an investigation preformed & his mom
called in a complaint as well. His mom & myself both call his councilor as well to report the incident however I am not sure what good any of it will do. My concern is that they will retaliate against him & now they are trying to isolate him so they can treat him horribly.

Has anyone else experienced situations like this? I just feel like I have no recourse & they can just abuse him. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Contact the Investigator General in Albany. That is the best route.

That's who I spoke to when I called and they said they would open an investigation but I'm concerned that they are going to retaliate as one of the CO's already said they are going to beat him. Since they are threatening to pull his visit privileges and he's not getting mail I will have no idea what's happening in there.

I would get him a lawyer for the tickets and the shu time if it's a significant length of time, and depending on his sentence, if it's a long bid, a short bid, how long he's in, if he needs parole approval or just has a flat bid and will get out automatically. As for the abuse, they abuse everybody. Lawyers can straighten a lot of stuff out. But, and I don't mean to sound jaded, there is abuse in prison and we all have to get used to it. Getting hassled sucks, but in the greater scheme of things it's not always worth fighting. Taking away your visits, if they do that, that's worth fighting. I would speak to a lawyer.

as for retaliation--this is why I always advise folks to think carefully about filing suits etc. And to never do it without consent from your loved one. But I will say that the IG getting involved usually keeps them on the staright and narrow a bit.

I also totally agree with Irish Girl.
