My son is a federal inmate awaiting sentencing in a county jail in North Carolina. Based on Fed Sentencing Guidelines, he could get up to 25 years for viewing child pornography. First offense and he is only 26 years young. He has accepted responsibility for his actions, and we agree he deserves to be punished in some way, it just blows my mind the amount of time he could get. It took a month after he was jailed for me to get his therapist in for visits. I'm grateful that hurdle is behind us for now. I'm looking forward to the support this website can provide. Thanks to everyone who shares.

Welcome graceabounds! So sorry to hear what your son is facing but you will definately find a huge amount of support here! 25 years just seems SOOOO wrong! I cannot imagine quite what you are going through right now......the uncertainly of the sentencing is one of the hardest parts.....but I will hope and pray that the sentencing judge looks kindly on the fact that your son is seeing his therapist and will be lienient!

Welcome and so sad that you have to go through this. He is your son and that is all that matters. Hopefully, he will not get the max. If you have not already there is a Loving a Sex Offender forum on here also. But you are more than welcomed here. Because this is the best forum of all. Loving Moms and Dads whose kids made mistakes, some small, some huge but still mistakes.
Take care

Welcome to the family Graceabounds....I LOVE your name!! I am so very very sorry that you need us...but you do, and I am thankful you found your way to us! You will find love, HOPE, support, prayers, understanding and encouragement here....we all share a child incarcerated....and all that it brings to our lives.
My son is in the Fed system too...10 yrs on drug charges. I KNOW...these long sentences are rediculous...and WRONG!!!
I am thankful BIG TIME that you were able to get his therapist in to see him! THAT IS A BLESSING.....and should be a plus when he does go before the judge.
I am praying that your son comes in WAY UNDER guidelines....Mine could have gotten 20.....and we just had a mom last week post that her son got 4 when his guidelines were 10....NOVER LOSE HOPE!!!
Please do stay close....and we'll walk this difficult road together....leaning on each other as we go.
Love and prayers,
XXOO

Welcome to PWCIP! My son's also 26. He was sentenced to a yr in county for child porn distributing (Limewire), but could have so easily wound up in the feds. You'll also see me in the sex offender forum should you happen to take a look over there. Glad you found us but so sorry for the circumstances that brought you here. I'll be praying for you and your son. Hang in there, momma!

Graceabounds - I love your name. I pray that God will give you the strength to endure the days ahead. We will be here for you. Twenty five years sounds like forever doesn't it? my son was sentenced to 20 - -has to serve 85%.
I am sure you are still dealing with the shock of everything that has happened. I hope that the therapist can help your son. I hope your son will be open to any help that is offered to him. I'm sorry your here - but we are here to help carry the load.

Hi Grace. Welcome. Having just gone through sentencing, the feelings are very fresh to me. The anticipation leading up to that day is truly the worst part of the whole nightmare. There is a sense of relief when you finally know what you are going to be dealing with, because then you can do just that--deal with it. I am praying big time that your son has a fair minded judge who isn't afraid to stand up against these absolutely ridiculous sentence guidelines. Come here often--we are all here for each other.
Hugs and prayers.
xoxo

Welcome to the PTO family! You will find the parents forum is the most loving and kind group of folks who understand just how you feel. I know another lady who's son was charged with the same thing and also in the federal system, he got 2 years. The not knowing how long they will do is the hardest part, keep telling yourself "This too Shall Pass" Hugs to you

Hi Grace, my son self surrendered July 27th for the same thing. He is only 32. He was looking at 9 years for one count of receipt and ended up getting the minimum guideline sentencing of 5 years in Federal Prison. It's only been a month for us.. Hang in there!
