Question Credit cards-Have you ever applied for one in your husband/fiancee's name?

Mods: If this needs to be moved please do it!

Ok I was talking to J tonight. He is just so sick that I have to pay for phone calls, food and his clothing because his mom can't afford to do it. I am not any better off, but I get by.

Well, J asked me to get/try to get a credit card in his name, basically anything. He goes either Visa or Matercard because that is all the phone company(GTL) and access corrections will take.

My question is have any of you gotten a credit card in his name for this purpose only and if so what are the best ones?

That would be illegal and fraudulent. He is not allowed to send applications out and that means you would have to sign his name on the card application. Even though he knows you are doing it and verbally consenting to it

If you have power of attorney authorizing you to conduct business on his behalf you are allowed to apply for credit in his name. The only problem with applying for a credit card in his name is that the bill would need to be paid and since he is in no position to do so you would still end up paying for the calls.

I have power of attorney for J, but I am not too sure if I want to pay another bill I don't need. This is just in the talking stage for us. I never said yay or nay to this, just that I would think about it. I seriously don't want to do this and I think I am going to tell him that. He is just going to have to make do with what I can do for hima nd occasionallyh his mom cn do for him.

You're already paying the bill so what's the point. If he wants to be the man about it he can save all that crap for when he gets out. You are supporting him inside, it doesn't mean he can't support you outside and sometimes that is easily achieved by NOT making you any extra work, confusion or stress when it is uneccessary.

Like another member posted, you'd still be paying for the calls and add to that interest charges so it makes no sense even if you can obtain it by legal means.
