Default RDAP Questions

Hello

I am currently in pretrial and should be sentenced to 18 months sometime in the next few months. I should be able to demonstrate a drug abuse problem to my PO and my offense is drug related as well. I should qualify for a camp as this is my first offense and was non violent. My questions about the program are:

1. Does an 18 month sentence exclude me from the program?

2. I read somewhere on PT that your drug problem had to occur within twelve months of incarceration. Is this correct or is it 12 months before you were arrested for your crime? It would seem pretty ridiculous if it were 12 months before incarceration as this is the time most defendants are on UA's and supervision. Can anyone clarify this. I dont want to get screwed for being clean for the last 12 months and then losing my chance at early release.

3. I have heard the program is no cake walk and a tough experience. Are you still allowed the privleges of the other prisoners i.e books etc. Are the housing conditions different from the other prisoners? Any other differences between the two other than intense counseling sessions?

4. When do they adjust your release date and decide how much time off you will get, after you graduate?

5. Can you be placed in a camp without the RDAP program and be concurrently waitlasted for the RDAP in another camp or do you have to be at the camp with the program to get on the list?

I want to do everything I can to get into the program if it
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks So Much

Luke

Luke, I will try to answer some of your questions.

I did graduate from the RDAP program. An 18 month sentence does not preclude you from the program. You can get in with a sentence of that length.

The program is emotionally tough. But there are no restrictions on RDAPers as far as being treated diiferently than other inmates. You have the same priveleges. The only difference is that you will all be in the same unit and for 3-4 hours a day, instead of being at your work detail, you will be in class.

Your sentence will not be adjusted until you have almost completed the program, about a month and a half or so before your class graduates.

You can be placed in a camp without RDAP but as soon as you become eligible you will transfer to an institution that does have it and be placed on the waiting list then.

Many people are incarcerated for the year prior to incarceration and still get into RDAP.

I highly recommend this program. It can be life changing if you work hard.

If you have any other questions I will try to answer them or at least point you in the right direction.
