In November I am going to drive 2860 miles round trip to see my son. This will be my first visit since he was arrested. We are poor and this will probably be our only visit. It costs too much to drive that far on a fixed income retirement budget. It is sad but we may only be able to see him at sentencing because so far the prison hasn't approved the special visit, and the sentencing date doesn't line up with the regular visitation schedule. *sigh* :-(

I will be traveling 1,758 plus some due to driving to airports to fly out and from airports to drive to the prison. Not quite sure how often this trip will done, due to the cost of the trip. This will be our first trip, since last seeing him in 2013.

I'll be making my first visit next month around Christmas. It's a 8 1/2 hr drive. I'm really nervous but excited to finally see him. I'm not really sure what to expect. I read the visitation rules and he's told me some stuff but I'm still nervous about the whole process. I've never been to a prison.

I wake up around 4:45 am, leave by 5:30, drive between 3 & 3 1/2 hours. Visit for 6 hours. Then drive back and be home by 7:30pm. By the end Iím exhausted. I go about 3 Sundayís a month. Itís tiring and a bit costly with gas but heís worth it. I treasure our visits ♥️

Just be sure to have your ID, the right amount of allowed money for snacks or less, and nothing else. Probably best not to go in nude or with too revealing of clothing. Just read the visitation rules and you'll be ok. IF you have any doubt, carry extra clothes in the car so if you're turned away, you don't have to drive to the mall to buy clothes.

Currently mine is 25 minutes away so I got see him twice a week (they get 8 visits a month). I'm lucky that we can do that for now because once he's transferred to Federal the calls will cut down and the visits if they send him far. I've already told him if I have to fly he'll probably only see me 2-4 times a year.

I used to drive 12 hours each way to see my husband once a month for a three-hour, non-contact visit. He finished his state time, was transferred to the Feds, and subsequently transferred 10 states, 2,700 miles away from home. Definitely canít go monthly, but Iím there several times a year.

9 hours there, 9 hours back (not including stops) - I drive straight there only making one stop in the middle to get gas. It's a long drive, But I enjoy the alone time and since she's in a camp we get all day visits Friday 11:30 am - 6:30 pm, Saturday, Sunday & Monday 8:15 am - 3:15 pm. I visited 4 times this year.

But, she just got transferred to a new FPC and is now 6 and a half hours from me each way so I plan on going at least once a month.

Default Oceans Apart..

I travelled an entire pacific ocean to see the love of my life on your Thanksgiving holiday in 2017. It was my first ever trip to the USA, I travelled from New Zealand to LAX caught a connecting flight from LAX to Nashville and drove for the first time on your roads (kiwis drive on right side) from Nashville to Kentucky to meet my partner for the first time ever! I can tell you all that it was the most terrifying & stressful trip ever, but the thought of knowing I would finally meet the man behind the letters, the tender voice behind the phone calls, was all the motivation I needed to get me across both ocean & land. Neither time or distance was gonna keep me from seeing the most AMAZING person in my life. Trip was 27hrs and totally worth every second!.

When he was in "jail" after his sentencing, it was only fifteen minutes away. Then he was transferred (eventually) to his first location, which was three hours (one way). I did that for a few months.. every weekend (one day visit). After several months, I found a job in that town (temp job) so I was then only 10 minutes away (haha). But then... we all moved to Florida (from Colorado). So now, we're around 2800 miles away. I hadn't gotten to visit in two years, I just flew out to visit in Jan for our first (again) visit. Now, it's scheduled out nicely where i'll be visiting 2 to 4 times a year. HOPEFULLY that won't be the case though... because he's up for a halfway house in FEB and parole in AUG. So crossing fingers for either of those to go through lol.

so... shortest distance? Like 10 minutes..
Longest distance... 26 hours driving (with no stops) OR a 4.5 hour flight and 2 hour drive. lol

awwww that's what's up! I live in NYC and my man is in SYracuse. Twice i've taken a bus to see him and luckily we got a 2 hour visit cuz i'm from out of town. Then I get right back on that Greyhound and back home. He's going to Elmira soon, as he was just sentanced. I can't wait. I will gladly travel whereever he goes, I go. And I don't blame you. Get a room and have a nice weekend visit.

I come from Europe to visit my friend who is in prison at least once a year. If the rates are great over here I might end up in prison twice a year. He is in Michigan. I always plan the trip so I can see him as often as possible.

14 hours round trip! I go twice a month and sometimes 3 because that's all that's allowed depending on the day I go. I have 1 day off a week so I leave at night after work, rent a car and drive. I visit for the day and drive home right after. I lose one night of sleep each time I go and never make it up due to work and kids but it makes me feel so much better to spend that 6-7 hours with him.

When and if we ever get approved for a visit, my drive will be around 22 hours. But one I'll gladly make as often as I can.

No MATTER how close or how far it DOESN'T make it easier. Stay STRONG and SOLID!!! They NEED YOU more than the express sometimes. Even if it's not frequently a letter means a lot.

Default Fabulous weekend

Drove 4 hours to Allenwood Medium to see my son. We got a hotel suite and visited Saturday and Sunday. A blessed trip. We plan to do that once a month. Family time is so important. Itís crucial to keep the connection. We took our 2 year old grandson this trip and it was an awesome experience.

I am new to this. The last week of December 2017 I drove 13 hours to see my boyfriend! I will not be able to return until after May. The drive and short visit was worth it!

Iím glad the 13 hr drive was worth it. With a drive that far, it IS tough to go often but it sounds like youíve got something thatíll work for you.

Iím happy for you.
