Default California Is Running Out of Inmates to Fight Its Fires

They’ve helped combat the flames since World War II. But with more—and more intense—fire seasons still ahead, a series of prison reforms have cut their ranks.

What a good article....laid out all the issues clearly and concisely, with an undercurrent of admiration and regard for the inmates.

All I know is they helped out when we had those massive fires in my area.
They were even allowed to visit (supervised of course) with those who's homes they were able to save by doing their work.
I hope they INCREASE the numbers of inmate firefighters. They were and are a valuable resource for assisting communities in a fire fight.

Everyone here was and is just gaga over firefighters.
We know how hard and long they worked. Same with the sheriff's dept.
Video footage of them driving people down the roads with fire on both sides?
holy cow.
