Default Timothy Don Carr GA RIP

Man executed for fatal attack on teen in 1992

By CARLOS CAMPOS
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/25/05
A Macon man was executed for his role in the fatal 1992 beating, stabbing and robbery of a 17-year-old in Monroe County.

Timothy Don Carr, 34, was pronounced dead at 8:37 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson after corrections officials delivered a lethal dose of chemicals to him via intravenous injection.

When asked if he had any last words, he offered: "Peace."

Earlier Carr recorded a last statement in which he apologized to the mother of the victim, Keith Patrick Young, and said he was sorry for any grief he had caused her family. He said he loved his own family and added it was "time for justice to be served."

Young's mother and grandfather witnessed Carr's execution. "It's finally over for our family," said Young's mother, Deniese Cail. "He's gone and he did not go where my son is. My son is in heaven."

About 16 anti-death penalty protesters gathered outside the prison.

Carr was sentenced to death in 1994 for the murder of Young. Carr, his girlfriend Melissa Burgeson, and two juveniles attended a party with Young on the night of Oct. 8, 1992.

After the party, the five left together in Young's car, according to the state attorney general's office. Carr and Burgeson decided to rob Young and stopped the car on a dirt road. Carr slashed Young's throat, stabbed him in the chest and beat him in the head with a baseball bat. Young was left to die on the side of the road.

Appeal lawyers for Carr did not dispute his guilt. They argued, however, that he received a sentence disproportionate to that of his co-defendant, Burgeson, who received life in prison with the possibility of parole.

On Monday, the parole board — the only entity in Georgia outside of the legal system that can commute a death sentence — denied a clemency request by Carr, clearing the way for his execution.

I heard about his upcoming execution on the news last night and this afternoon. I was in class during the time of this execution, but I looked at my watch and said a prayer. I was hoping that the appeals went through at the last minute, but that was not the case. When I heard that the execution went through on tonight's news, I was so sadden...I pray for his family and loved ones, rest in peace Timothy you are finally free...

This is truly a tragic day today, 2 state murders in one night. I always feel for the victims families, but the comment that Mr Carr is not in heaven is not up to us to judge, at the end of the day, as commented to me today, the state and persons involved commited the same crime tonight, as Mr. Carr did. It will never be right.

I am sure Timothy Carr found his final word tonight "peace". May his soul rest in peace, and to his family and loved ones, I am truly sorry.

No words except disgust and sympathy. I wish this judicial brutality would stop.

on a day like this I am truly proud to not be American (no offense to my American friends intended) I am not a religious person, but if there is a heaven I know that Mr. Carr had a place reserved there along with Troy and they will be waiting on their loved ones.
I hope that Mrs. Young has found the closure she has obviously been looking for (though I somehow doubt it).
May Mr. Carr and Mr. Young rest in peace.
and may the state murderers live in shame.

I do feel sorry for Ms. Young's loss, but Ms. Carr had to watch her son die, and had to endure comments like Ms. young's. I am sorry that she is so bitter, but I think her comment makes it clear that executing Timothy solves nothing. I pray that both of those families can find peace

I could say it over and over again: The Death penalty is a shame!
Wake up, America!
Rest in peace, Timothy - you are on a better place now.

Intelligent and great welfare state? Doesnt seem like that.
At least justice-system sucks really bad.
Barbarian & brutal thinking of : "Eye to eye" and blaah blaah blaah
- violence don't end in this way.
I hope America would wake up someday...
I think Finland would offer the model examples for justice-system, of course we have our problems too, but I think mostly things are really well here. Of course I always think victims family too, but that comment from Youngs mother was awful.
I hope, that Timothy has found his peace now.

I am so sorry I am so late in seeing this. I just wanted to add my sympathy. How very sad, very tragic. Taking one's life does not replace another life that was taken. This truely is barbaric.

May he rest in peace and may the victims families be able to move ahead in their lives if they truely feel this will bring them closure.
