Default Need some advice on mail to a friend at ERDCC...

A friend of mine is doing two years at ERDCC. I'd like to send him mail occassionally just to let him know that there are still folks that support him. Problem is his girlfriend does not like me. He can't call me b/c I only have a cell phone. He and I haven't really been close for a few years, so it's not like he's waiting for mail from me. Okay, enough rambling. Question is: should I send him mail, or is it going to be more of a problem for him (b/c of the girlfriend) than it's worth. I doubt he is receiving much mail right now. I'm new to this forum, and really appreciate all of the information out there! Thanks.

First off, welcome to PTO. You will find oodles of information here.

Now, if I was you, I would send him a card or something just to say you are there if he needs anything and that you are thinking of him. Let him decide whether or not he wants to receive your mail. You aren't looking for a romantic relationship with him, so she really shouldn't worry about it, but if she causes enough of a stink about it, he may cut off contact.

He can call a cell phone if he purchases minutes from the canteen. Let him know that and give him your number to call if he chooses.

Default Thank you!

Thank you for your help. I guess I just needed a little push. I know how important it is for him to get mail from friends.
