Question Sending calendars to The SHU?

Hi gang any tips on this?

Whats the size limit? Do I need to take the plastic wrap off of it and the cardboard insert out? What about the staples?

Also can I send it in just a large plain manila envelope? bubble envelope? or cardboard "picture" type mailer?

It has been forever since I have sent one in and imagine things may have changed not that I remember the regs anyways LOL

Thanks

Hello California Sunshine!
Well the rules are forever changing as you know.
But when I sent him his calendar last year it could not be bigger then
a 12x12 calendar.
No frontal nudity of course.
Do not worry about the staples.
They can do that themselves.
Don't worry about the cardboard either.
I would personally remove it only to cut down on mailing cost.
But other then that I would leave it.
Good Luck!
Rebe
P.S
No special mailer is needed to send it in.

When I mail my 12X12 Calendar...I take the plastic wrap off of, I take the cardboard insert out and I take the staples out...
Also I send it in a large plain manila envelope...
I have had CO's not be as carful taking out the staples as I am...

HELLO ALL!
I received a letter from my husband today.
It is dated the 18th of Sept.
They are being denied calendars once again.
Supposely the prison will issue them this year.
So until you hear from your love ones I would not send one.

I did the same thing as dessertmoonwoman, sent it with a letter to my pp and haven't heard back yet. Guess we'll see. What more can they do with SHU men that will certainly drive them to react in a negative manner.

Shameful.

If I do hear or receive a notification of rejection then I'll call the mail room then the warden. Has anyone else called the mail room or warden on this?

This is an instance when the families can all work together, and the inmates then contact the warden. We would have a stronger voice.

Are the SHU inmates having a date problem? Is it just the whites?

I would call the mail room and ask them directly what is allowed now. It was after the Hunger Strike that they changed the rules. It is better to find out, rather than pay and have it shipped and to pay for the returned item.

I cannot say this enough times, use this forum as a guideline, but always call to be sure. I believe one of the concessions of the Hunger Strike is that the SHU is allowed calenders. There is a sticky on the first page of the Pelican Bay Forum and there you will find the guidelines and number to the mail room. Call and check to be sure. G and I have ended our relationship and I may not be here as much as I used to. I cannot say it enough times, ALWAYS call to be sure. Good Luck!

Hi Honda,

My husband is also in the SHU and he wrote me that they are allowed to have a calendar, no larger than 12 x 14, no staples. I called the mail room and was told if the calendar is shipped directly from the vendor the mail room will remove the staples.
I just ordered his from Amazon.com as the price was lowest I could find for the one I wanted to get him (girls & motorcycles - girls for him, motorcycles for me!!!)

Does anyone have an update on the calendars that you may send into the SHU? It has been over a year and a half since the last post. Please keep us up to date on this.

I sent one last year directly from the publisher (amazon) with no problems. I just sent a 2015 one about 2 weeks ago (calendar.com) and haven't heard if it went smoothly. I kept it to the 12x12 size (12x24 when open) and staple binding not the spiral. I will update again when I receive notice he recived the most recent one.
