Default Milestone credits not in C File

My son was just recently transferred to a different prison. When he went before Committee, he was told there was no record of his completion of time in his vocational program. This could make a difference of more than a month in his release date. He had been asking and asking the instructor to please enter his milestone credits, but he always felt the instructor was putting it off. Since he is still in transition, he can't easily make calls to the former prison and asked me to call their Education Department and make a request.

Has anyone done this before? If so, what is the best way to get his milestone credits entered? Thanks in advance for any information.

I'm assuming he completed them after August of this year, right? Anything before wasn't counted for VOs.

I don't think calling is the most effective way to get that done (for him). He can write to the instructor and the counselor at his former facility requesting the records be submitted. You can call and try to speak with the counselor, but as he's not under their watch anymore, I don't know what kind of response you'd get.

It's tough. Let us know how things turn out.

You asked me to get back as to what happened. He did write, but he never heard back. I think either my son didn't understand the cutoff date or the instructor just didn't put in any of his credits. Fortunately, he'll be out soon. Thanks for sending information!

I've heard a few people speaking on missing certificates for things and having to chase down program facilitators to get them added to their file. If anyone else is reading this, have your LO ensure that their work is being documented in their C-file and ask for copies of certificates to keep in their cell if possible.

I'm glad you're close to the gate. Can't wait to hear he's home!
