The stabbing death of an inmate Sunday night at the county jail is being investigated by the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s department.
Adam Eugene Avalos, 29, of Las Cruces was killed while being held for a probation violation at the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
Inmate Dominic Martin Montoya, 29, of Las Cruces has been named a suspect in the killing.
County spokesman Jess Williams said jail guards responded to an altercation between two inmates at around 8 p.m.
When guards arrived they found one inmate unconscious and a second inmate covered in blood.
I was an inmate at the DACDC for 4 months and saw countless displays of bad training, incompetance, and just plain laziness. I wouldn't find it hard to believe if the man who was stabbed was asked to put a medical request into the kiosk. They probably charged him the $5 medical fee before he died too.
