All of the specialized units are set to be relocated. Reception will continue there until at least April, however the new arrivals will be moved quickly to Camp Hill, as will those with short minimums. Once the facility is closed, the new intake point for the western region will be SCI Greene.
Inmates will be relocated each week. Those in programs will be moved last, to allow them to complete the programs. There will be transfers of other inmates around the state, too, in order to balance the population. About 1,000 beds are re-opening at Camp Hill after being refurbished. This will absorb more than half of the number displaced by the closing.
Efforts will also be made to keep inmates on parole dockets at PGH until they see the Board (but not past June 30th.)
Justice and compassion don't have to be exclusive.
