Need info on Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP)
This is my first post, not really sure how Prison Talk works.
My son will be release in 8 months. He just told me a counselor came by to ask if he was interest in applying for the Male Community Reentry Program but really gave him no info about it. My question is have others here had any experience, good or bad with the MCRP ?
Thank you

It's a good thing. Ankle monitor, good food, regular clothes and some actual preparation for re-entry. The men's program is very limited in time, but they help you get ID, SS and help you prepare for a job. Much better than prison. Unfortunately the men are cutting off their monitors too frequently and making the program look bad. Also groups, therapy and usually geared for drug/alcohol abusers.

My husband was asked today by his counselor if he is interested in mcrp but he wasnt sure if south siders are allowed to go because of prison politic rules (apparently because there are guys there who were once in protective custody). Hes afraid he will get to Chino and be told he has to turn back and refuse transortation. Because hes in fire camp he has no way of finding out. He has 2 weeks to give his counselor an answer. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any help would be appreciated

Click here for the CDCR info page on the MCRP.
Not sure if this answers everyone's questions, but for those wondering about the program in general, it does give location, program length and eligibility outlines.

If this applies to him, it is listed as an exclusion:
Validated Security Threat Group I (STG I) pursuant to California Code of Regulations,
Title 15 Subsection 3378(c)

MCRP
I read your post and was wondering if your loved one decided to go to the MRCP. My significant other is currently on his way from High Desert to an MRCP in Los Angeles. I was wondering if you had any info or could share any useful experience with me. I am wondering how long it will be before i get to speak to him or see him again?

Re: Mcrp
Hello leolover 84,
I'm sorry I don't have any info to share with you about MCRP. My son was contacted last month to see if he wanted to apply for the program. He did but has heard nothing further. I read that he could be eligible to for the program the last 120 days of his sentence, which will be in December.
I hope things are working out well for your loved one.

Per the videos and the website, once the men are at an MCRP facility, they wear normal clothes. Does anyone know how they get these clothes?

Was hoping for a response regarding details of the program. I've contacted the DRP by phone and email as well as the ombudsman but no response from them as well. I've found all the links available and studied those and printed them off and mailed them.
Does anyone have any further info about the MCRP program? Anyone out there have a loved one in the program?
My son has a great deal of "detailed" questions...

Just curious which DRP office you've contacted so you're not directed to the same you've already tried. These are the numbers I found...
Office of Offender Services
In-Prison Programs
916-327-3352
Office of Offender Services
Community Reentry Services
916-327-8376
Office of Program Accountability and Support
916-324-5041
I'd probably try all of them and explain that you've tried (other number) with no response.

I found a latest article on MCRP (February 15, 2017). It is now 12 months not 6 as had been previously reported. http://www.insidecdcr.ca.gov/2017/02...se-from-judge/

Still not getting any responses. I'll keep trying. A new facility is supposed to be done by now in San Francisco. Contract states it needs to be done by March 6th. There's no announcement yet or website update.

i was able to get a DRP phone answer today. The San Francisco facility will be opening in about 3 weeks - facility is going through city inspections. Per the contract, it was supposed to be opened by March 6th - so it's about a month late. She said it could be 2 weeks longer before men would be moved there.

I heard further from CDCR DRP. They called in response to my email containing a set of questions. Their response was as follows:
1. In regard to clothing; the facility will have "some" clothing for the men when they arrive but it's assumed family will bring them clothing. I asked if this could be shipped and they felt it could.
2. There will be a counselor in the facility.
3. There will be a job coordinator who will work with the inmate to facilitate him being hired. This would typically be done based on the inmate's skills.
4. Transportation to/from work would be through public transportation. It's a requirement that public transportation be available at most 1/4 mile away from the facility.
5. Cell phone use will be up to the contractor/facility and would be decided on a case by case basis.
6. Use of a computer would be in-house and would not typically include social media, etc.
7. Visitors would be approved as is done by CDCR. Visiting hours would be decided by the facility/contractor but you would not use the CDCR system to schedule the visit.
8. The men would go through a black-out period when arriving but its length would be done case by case.
9. The facility will put together a trust fund for the men; any current balance would be transferred.
10. The men will go through an orientation when they arrive.
Hope this helps. I'll keep this up to date as we learn more.

Here is the latest on MCRP (April 2017). Note it now covers up to 365 days before the EPRD and includes a facility in San Francisco (which is located at 141 6th Street).
The Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) is designed to provide, or arrange linkage to a range of community-based, rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification, and social support. MCRP’s help participants successfully reenter the community from prison and reduce recidivism.
The MCRP is a voluntary program for male inmates who have approximately 365 days left to serve. The MCRP allow eligible inmates committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the community in lieu of confinement in state prison. Location(s): • Butte County • Kern County • San Francisco County • Los Angeles County • San Diego County
Length of Program: 365 days to 30 days prior to the Earliest Possible Release Date (EPRD) Enrollment: Inmates determined eligible for placement will be reviewed by the Institutional Classification Committee and, if approved for placement, referred to the Classification Staff Representative for endorsement.
All participants are subjected to mandatory electronic monitoring and must agree to the monitoring as a condition of placement.
Eligibility Requirements: Eligible inmates who have approximately 365 days, but no less than 30 days, of their State prison sentence remaining may volunteer for placement.
The ineligibility criteria is as follows:
• An inmate whose County of Last Legal Residence (CLLR) does not have a MCRP or is not served by a multi-county MCRP. An inmate approved for a transfer of supervision to a county which is served by a MCRP is eligible
• Has a PC Section 290 registration requirement, an R suffix, or current or prior conviction for a sexually violent offense as defined in subdivision (B) of the Welfare and Institutions Code Section 6600
• Has a California Static Risk Assessment score of five (high violence) • Has an escape history within the last five years, or mandatory minimum placement score (MMPS) noted for Escape • Has an active or potential felony hold, warrant, or detainer
• Has in-custody misconduct (Division A-C offenses) within the last 12 calendar months, except physical possession of alcohol and possession of drugs (Trafficking offenses remain exclusionary) • Has been released from Security Housing Unit/Psychiatric Security Unit (SHU/PSU) within the last 12 calendar months
• Validated Security Threat Group I (STG I) pursuant to California Code of Regulations, Title 15 Subsection 3378(c)

Follow that link - there's a lot of info including some videos. My son is still waiting to go to the San Francisco facility but they haven't opened yet - having permit issues. He was endorsed the end of January.
He kept waiting daily to be transferred. He's given that up now.
But I think the San Diego facility has been open for a while.
Best of luck to you. Once he's there, please let us know how it goes for him.
Sounds like a great program.
