Default Local phone number question for SD

My husband will be going to a Trustee Unit in Yankton, SD and he said that if I have a local # from Yankton it would be cheaper. Does anyone have a suggestion? Help!
Or know of a trusted phone co that I can use.

A local call for him would be cheap. If he has money on his phone books it's only $1.50 per call. Max call is 20 minutes. He can't call you collect.

How to get the local number all depends on how often you want him to call. A straight talk cell phone with 1000 minutes is $30 a month. Or $45 a month for unlimited. When you register the cell phone just use 57078 as your home zipcode. This will get you a local Yankton cell phone number.
The same would work if he was in Sioux Falls, Rapid city or Springfield.

Your other option is a tracfone. Just purchase the minutes you need.

If you contact your cell phone carrier they can give you a new phone # for Yankton. SD however has the same area code for the entire state, it is the prefix that determines the location so you need to have a Yankton Prefix.... ie; 605 -???-1234. I only know of 2 of Yanktons Prefixes..they are 664 & 760. If you have that for a # then the calls only cost .90cents.

Great idea if you don't mind losing your old cell number. I know with my cell carrier AT&T. They will charge an extra $9.99 a month to add another cell phone to my plan. Buy a used cell off of ebay and you don't have to sign a new contract.

It's awesome they dropped local calls to 90 cents!!!!!!!

It was easier for me to give everyone my new # rather than make sure I had both phones with me & charged. I am with Sprint & they do not charge nor extend my contract when I got a new #. I have changed it 3 times.
