Default Question about FBI CJIS Division

So today I got mail addressed to me from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It's a Departmental Order 556-73 Information Packet to be mailed to the FBI CJIS Division-Summary request. I have no idea why I was sent this or what its for. I would ask my guy but he is in the SHU, again. Anyone have a clue?

Someone has apparently requested a criminal records check on you or your husband. Most federal law enforcement agencies have direct computer access to the NCIC data base, but I don't know if the bop CIS does, or if it has to make a request to the FBI.

I never encountered a letter like the one you received, but you should be able to figure it out by contacting the FBI.

The Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) gives state, local, and federal law enforcement and criminal justice agencies access to criminal justice information (CJI)—for example, fingerprint records and criminal histories.

The FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division provides certification of fingerprints and/or Identity History Summary information to be used in court cases. Certified copies can only be requested by law enforcement entities

Thank You! I'm gonna call the number they gave me to see what I can find out. I know for 100% I do not have a criminal record or anything that would pop up on a background check so this is just weird. I'm also writing my guy a letter to ask if he knows why I was sent this packet.

So I spoke to someone today, they said someone had called and said they were me requesting the packet.....weird, why would someone do that. They told me I'm not required to fill it out and can toss it.

It could be part of stealing your identity. Keep a close eye on your finances, and check to see if any new credit accounts appear unexpectedly.
