Default Buying Phone Time from Commissary at TDCJ

My son just told me that they are going to be able to purchase phone time from commissary in a couple of weeks...in April. Does anyone know how this will work? If you already have minutes purchased in advance and on your account with CBS, how would you switch over to commissary minutes. Buying from the commissary is supposed to be the cheapest at .23 cents a minute. If anyone has any information please let me know.

Thanks for any help that can be given.

Sunny

Last nite when my hubby called me I noticed they mention this on the recording. My question is do we still have our 240 minutes or can we have extra? For example if we run out of minutes and would like to purchase so 30 more minutes. Could he use those 30 minutes plus the 240 minutes. Just wondering. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks

I did find out that when my son calls he can call one of two ways. He can call collect and the minutes I have already paid for with CBS will be used or he can make a debit call which will use the minutes he purchased with commissary money. When he calls he will be told to press "1" to make a collect call or another number to make a debit call. This is the way I understand it. I do not know if they get more than the 240 minutes.

Unfortunately, I do not believe this increases the 240 minute limit. It just is a different payment option.

I had the same question.

My son said that it would NOT count against his spending limit.

i think the spending limit is seperate, because you can already fund a phone debit account for an inmate on jpay, but the can use those mins you fund to call not just you. I know it is 3 cents cheaper. But it is possible that they are rolling it all into one.

he's only allowed 240 a month. if you pay cbs, he can only use that to call you. if he purchases prepaid through commissary, that is his and he can call whoever has registered their phone for him. you have 365 days to request a refund from cbs. no matter who he calls, it's still just 240 a month and he'll be cut off til a new month. still in all it doesn't matter how he calls cause you'll still be paying for the calls one way or another. just a little cheaper through commissary.

I guess the commissary purchase for calls might be nice since they are a little cheaper but that would mean I need to keep up with how many minutes he has left...Maybe just one more hassle. We shall see I guess. Thanks for the info.

if he has money on his commissary account, he's allowed to purchase phone time which doesn't count against his commissary allotment in a given time. his phone time is seperate. his tdc# is credited for phone time and when he calls you he pushes the # for a debit call. when he calls it will tell him how many minutes he has available. you do not have to cancel you cbs account. the minutes he buys through commissary can be used to call anyone who has registered their phone for him, the money you put on cbs is to call you only.
