Default Medium Custody back to Close custody??

Hello do any of you know what this might mean?
My buddy was a close custody inmate and about
a month ago went to medium custody. I looked on
FL Dept of corrections website today and noticed he
is back to Close Custody. I am not understanding this.
I also wanted to know when do they weigh them.
and how often?????within 2wks since I last looked@
the site this man has dropped 3lbs and I must admit
I am getting worried. Last time his custody changed he was
fighting. Man I hope it is not nothing bad I am wondering
if I should call his classification officer. I am just a friend
though not family or his wife/significant other they may
not tell me. Oh man! I think something is real wrong.
Any answers are welcomed.

A custody change to a higher level indicates he was likely involved in some sort of security incident - like a fight or being caught with contraband, etc.

As for weight, how often varies. My husband has chronic medical problems that require monitoring occasionally. He gets weighed sometimes as part of his visits to medical, and then his record updates from that. But other than that, he wouldn't have been weighed officially in the 9 months since he left reception I don't think. (unofficially I believe there is a scale out by the rec yard that the inmates can use to monitor their own health). Since my husband goes quite a long time between weigh-ins at medical checks, his record usually records pretty big drops when it is updated. But that is for a pretty long period of time.

And don't forget that weight can vary by a couple of pounds just based on hydration level and the time of day you weigh yourself, etc.

Thanks so much for responding. I got
a letter stating he had moved to another
dorm under medium security. His brother
called and said something about an error
with having close on his profile page with
Florida Doc Website. I am so happy it had
nothing to do with confinement or DR's.
His daughters and the mother will be
there to visit him and he needs all the support
that he can get. This will be great for him.
They will be visiting this Saturday. Who knows
maybe they will be a family again. Very happy
for him.

Thank you Nan425

Close custody is a step up from medium. Here in NC close custody means inmates that are trouble prone and need close watch :eeek: sry has he been in trouble?

Yea unfortunately that's what it means. The definition on FL doc is something along the lines of - "an inmate that has to be in a secure perimeter at all times" like armed guards and stuff. That's weird they moved him up if he's doing well. Hmm..I'd tell him to talk to his counsler about why. And no problem.

No problem and I'm not sure what he's done but he should know. All it really means is he has to be under armed supervision when he's not in a "secure" area, its nothing too bad. Close custody is one step down from Max and one step up from medium. There's got to be a reason why he was moved up. You can call his counsler in the morning and he/she may tell you why he was moved up. Like I said there's got to be a reason.

Could be someone at the new camp caught an error in his original custody classification, or got new info about him that they added in which raised his level.

The classification officer should be able to explain the change.

Default hope this helps

Tried to post the link but the forum wouldn't let me. I got it straight from FLDOC website
    1. The system uses five (5) distinct groups, described as custody levels: maximum, close, medium, minimum, and community.
      1. Maximum: Refers to inmates who are under a sentence of death.
      2. Close: Refers to inmates who must be maintained within an armed perimeter or under direct, armed supervision when outside of a secure perimeter.
      3. Medium: Refers to inmates eligible for placement at a work camp with a secure perimeter, but who are not eligible for placement in an outside work assignment without armed supervision.
      4. Minimum: Refers to inmates eligible for outside work assignments, but not for placement at a community residential facility.
      5. Community: Refers to inmates eligible for placement at a community residential facility.
  1. How is an inmate's custody grade changed?
    1. As the inmate serves his sentence, he or she will be reevaluated whenever something happens that could change the inmate's custody. These events could be positive or negative. Examples of this would be earning gaintime that reduces time remaining to serve and would tend toward lower custodies, or an inmate receives a disciplinary report for a rule violation that would tend towards higher custodies.
The custody system is paperless and dynamic. Any event that changes the inmate's suggested custody causes an appointment for the inmate's Classification Officer to review the inmate's custody.
    2. Items affecting custody are:
      • Criminal history and the inmate's history of violent crime.
      • Time remaining to serve.
      • Disciplinary reports.
      • Sex offenses and escapes.
      • Detainers and alien status.
      • Good adjustment and program participation.
    1. As an inmate completes more of his or her sentence, the time remaining drops, thus reducing his or her CARS custody score (as long as he or she is behaving or does not have a sex offense, escape or detainer).
