Default Aust trio jailed in Hong Kong for drug trafficking

Aust trio jailed in Hong Kong for drug trafficking from www.abc.net.au

The High Court in Hong Kong has sentenced three young Australians to between nine and 13 years in prison for trying to smuggle heroin into Australia.

The three were arrested last April after police raided their low-budget hotel room and found 114 condoms and several glove fingers filled with heroin.

Police alleged two of the trio were planning to swallow the packages before boarding a flight to Sydney.

A 16-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons was given nine years, while 18-year-old Rachel Ann Diaz was sentenced to 10 years and eight months in jail.

Twenty-two-year-old Hutchinson Tran got 13 years and four months in jail.

What amazes me is that there has been so much publicity around the drugs prosecutions of Schappelle Corby, Michelle Leslie and the Bali Nine and so on.
Do these people think they are really going to get away with it?

I hope that they have lots of family support to help them get through the ordeal! They are only kids!! Good grief!

They were initially arrested in April 2005 so the Bali Nine and the Michelle Leslie affairs may not have burst on the scene.

The young guys name is Chris Ha Vo - not sure why its been supressed now as he's not a juvi under Hong Kong SAR law.
