Default TDCJ Procedures Implemented in Response to COVID-19 March 11, 2020

As of right now, visitation is not cancelled. That could change, so please check TDCJ's website or call ahead. What TDCJ has implemented in regards to visitation:
Visitation:

  • Any units located within an “affected” county (list can be located at https://dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus) will require visitors to complete the TDCJ COVID-19 Screening.
  • Any visitors who reside in an “affected” county will be required to complete the TDCJ COVID-19 Screening.
  • Should any visitor not meet the requirements, or demonstrates signs of illness, visitation will not be approved.
For a list of other new procedures implemented by TDCJ in response to Corona Virus and/or visitation updates, see link below:

Visitation:
March 13, 2020: In accordance with Governor Abbott’s declaration, effective today, the TDCJ will be temporarily suspending visitation at all our facilities (statewide) until further notice. While we understand the value and significance of the visitation process at our facilities, we also understand the importance of providing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all involved. For continued updates, please refer to our agency website.

I am sending this to the Attorney General as well as the Texas Parole Board
PLEASE SHARE
My name is Michelle. I am the wife of (Removed per member request). I am writing this letter on behalf of him as well as every other non-violent parole eligible inmate in TDCJ.
My husband is in the Holliday Unit on a technical violation of his parole. He was sentenced to 20 years for evading arrest in 2009 and has served 10 years of that sentence.
We are all aware of the serious threat this virus is to not only our lives but our way of Life as We Know It. The whole world is being affected by the illness and is slowly screeching to a stop due to an attempt to slow down the destruction it is causing on every corner of the planet.
The CDC as well as the President both concede that personal isolation is a key to survival and possibly stopping the ever-increasing mortality rates this virus is leaving in its wake.
Our husbands, Sons, brothers, and fathers are crammed tightly inside a metal box with 50 other men, all breathing the same, still, dank air that is a perfect breeding ground for viruses and bacteria to thrive. It's not "if" it's "when" the virus penetrates the walls of a prison, the result will be catastrophic. These men have been, in essence, sentenced to death, while their loved ones are out here struggling to keep our children safe in this rapidly changing world. We have no idea what's going to happen from one day to the next or what the End-game will be, But what we do know, is that this is only getting worse and not better. If just one guard or inmate gets sick or passes the virus while asymptomatic, it will cause a chain reaction no one is prepared for. The only humane way to deal with this unprecedented event is to release these men to take care of their families and to have a chance of their own at survival. Our number of confirmed cases doubled in just 48 hours from 5,700 on Tuesday to 13,100 on Thursday. It has now climbed to 14,371 cases and 217 deaths and is still climbing. It's not just the elderly that are being affected. Please consider the lives of those locked away defenseless in our prisons and Set them free before it's too late. Thank you.

Did they revoke his parole? I pray they let non violent offenders out. But the Governor said yesterday they weren't.
