I stupidly dropped out of college with only 3 classes left to get my degree... Thankfully I was able to find a good job in insurance and earn promotions along the way. Now I make more than I would have with my degree, more than most of my friends with bachelors, but at the same time it's preventing me from going after other opportunities that would have interested me.

Yes, I have a degree or 2 also. I have a BS in Forest Resources, a Master of Science in Hydrology and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship. The woman I'm writing to has her GED but I'm going to help her get a degree. She'll start with correspondence courses while in prison and then complete her degree via the internet or classroom attendance once she gets out. She went into prison at a fairly young age so she didn't have the opportunity to go to college first. I didn't write to her with the intent of finding someone with a degree. We wrote, got along, became friends and more. The connection between us does not rely on an accounting of degrees or intelligence. Her letters show her intelligence but just because she hasn't had the opportunity to go to school beyond high school doesn't mean I'm going to disregard the connection we have. Getting a degree is up to her, not me, and our relationship does not hinge on whether she gets a degree or not but it's important to her so I'll help her with it.

I have 5 degrees. Computer Info Systems, Business, Paralegal Studies, and 2 in Nursing. Also, still in school for Nurse Practitioner-Psychiatric and yes Ive been married to a soon to be released inmate in less than 30 days, for years. I feel like its my life not anyone elses. Im the only one who has to deal with it! Education has nothing to do with it.

I have my Associates Degree in Social Sciences and I am working on my Bachelors in Psychology. I am engaged to a lifer, I worked in a prison, and he is eligible for parole now. Should be getting a date soon. My family is not happy and I could care less. This is my life, he makes me very happy, and I am going to ride it out.

I graduated high school in 2011 and went straight to community college where I am still at today. I am on President's List twice and Dean's List three times so far. I had to withdraw from all of my classes for one semester and had to change majors twice. I came back the next semester after I withdrew and my final grades the semester when I came back were all A's. On December 6th 2015, I became a certified Windows Client Pro person to configure and troubleshoot Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems at the age of 22. I am going to take a test to become certified in managing and troubleshooting the Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 operating systems soon. My Cumulative GPA is 3.451 and I will graduate in May 2017 with my Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Information Technology. I am currently 23 years old and August will be my 6th year in community college. If you have any questions about my story, please ask me. I love to answer questions.

Earning degrees must have been like eating potato chips for you. It's hard to stop at 1 or 2!

Somewhat like eating chips except way more expensive and not as satisfying... I shouldn't joke, my education has served me well.... though it equally didn't stop me from screwing up. But that's probably too much to ask.

No worries, I learned that the benefits of some experiences take a long time to understand, school being one of them.

I was given 4 years to finish a 5 year degree. Somehow I did but the experience was more intense than my maturity could take. I walked away from the chance to go to one of the best engineering grad schools in the country. Not very smart. I wandered around in wilderness for a very long time and then somehow came back. Now I sit in lecture halls and study with grad students that I'm old enough to be their father. I work a full time job for the same school in a lab. It's humbling at times, but I have seen and done things I never imagined I would.

I have a bachelor's degree and a law degree. My family also uses my education as a reason my boyfriend isn't "good enough"...

I'm sorry you have to go through the not "good enough" conversations. I use to worry about being the subject of those, but then this Christmas I was pretty much told that I had long ago wildly exceeded any expectations. The "good enough" problem will go away, if in time your boyfriend is revealed to be your best friend and good man who does what he needs to do. It's just going to take a lot of time. It does not matter after the fact, but it's sort of funny how one day people just flip their judgements of people.

K6770 - That's education at its best - you end up doing things you never imagined you would. Although, LOL, the criminal justice system produces the same effect. But it costs a lot more to process someone through the justice system than it does to send them even to a good grad school.
