My fiance was transferred out of Jackson to Coffee this week. I'm not sure what to think about a private prison.

My son is at a private prison & said it's better than Jackson was. It has air conditioning & better set up. He is able to call & I can hear him. At Jackson it sounded like he was in a zoo- yelling & all kinds of noise. Look for the forum about Coffee & see if there are any posts that might help you.

Default Just moved to Jackson

My man- was sentenced to 1 year, for a ridiculous technical violation in Coweta County.
This is not his1st time down the road, however he is a lot older than he was when his prison lfe began.

He also has a hold in Barrow county that he will have to face once his year is up, ( due to the Coweta County violation)

My question is, he was first arrested 6/27/16- and was flip flopped all over the state before finally being sentenced to do a year state time (8/3/16)

How do I get the GADOC to adjust his max out date- it is currently 8/21/17. Makes no sense.

Will he also be able to serve 1/3 of his time?

Any help is appreciated, he has 6 kids that want their daddy, and are all looking to me for answers.

Thanks!

Default Scabies Outbreak

My son is incarcerated at Coffee County Correctional Facility. This facility is currently having a Scabies infestation. Scabies is an infestation of the skin by the human itch mite and spreads rapidly in crowded areas. There has been approximately 15 or 20 inmates infected with this parasite and the numbers are growing. The normal treatment is physician prescribed medication administered to all of the members of the infected environment at the same time as well as the decontamination of all furniture, bedding, etc. This is very costly and the state of Georgia obviously is not willing to pay for it. Who should I contact to report the neglect of this facility?

Coffee is operated by CCA. I would contact them & make them aware of the situation. The contact for CCA corporate is 615-263-3000 or 1-800-624-2931. Here is a link to the CCA healthcare policyhttp://www.cca.com/inmate-services/inmate-wellness/health-care
If they don't seem interested in helping, you might mention that the news media could find this an interesting topic especially since the government is talking of closing private prisons.

Our son was at Spalding from 09/15 to 08/16 and found it to be very good (especially compared to Riverbend where he is now). In general the staff there are polite and even-handed. We especially liked the staff at the front when we arrived for our weekly visits. From what our son heard while he was at Jackson diagnostic waiting to be assigned, Spalding was in the top tier of county camps to go to.

Our son is in Spalding. And yes for the most part it is one of the better camps. The best camp our son was at was Carroll County in Carrollton, that was 3 years ago.

There is no telling how long a transfer to a TC will take. My son put in his request the end of November & is still waiting. It has to go through several stages for approval. First the counselor signs off on it, then the facility review board, then the warden. After that it goes to DOC classification & review to approve.

Our request has been sitting with the DOC since the 1st week of January. All they say is "it's pending". We've been told that in order to be approved, they have to have at least 12 months left to serve. My son is to be released in February 2018 so I'm not sure what will happen. He put in the request in plenty of time & has done all the required classes.

I would suggest that you call the DOC or if possible, try to attend the DOC Family Day on Friday (21st). There will be people there to answer those type of questions.

Good luck.
