I don't save his letters. I read them and trash them after I respond to them. Does that make me a bitch? I don't want to remember this time of our lives. It's heartbreaking. My husband is in prison. That's not a great memory and a incredibly sad part of our lives. Not something I want to look back at once it's over.

No! It most certainly does not mean you are a bitch!
I'm sad if you thought any of us would think that.
I admire people that don't need things to try to fill a gap, I wish I was like that.

I am basically a hoarder (although I draw the line at newspapers, lol) I keep things that I have an emotional attachment to. I won't reread his letters though and one day I hope I can burn them, along with a lot of unhappy memories. At the moment, they are a piece of him that I know is in my home and they bring me comfort to be near. Its irrational and I'm OK with that.

This journey is one we each take in our own way and what ever works is right for you.

Of course I do, even though prison sucks it has been a time in me and my husband's lives where we have had some of the most intimate conversations I could imagine, and it's given us the opportunity to get to know each other by letter in an age where most people don't even write them anymore.

I have a whole stack of letters and it's at the top of the list of "things to grab in case of a fire."

I'm working on copy/pasting all of our letters on jpay (once we started having access to that instead of snail mail.) I don't want to lose the record of all we've talked about. It's the story of how we grew into what we are today.

I kinda went out to make sure his letters were kept safe/intact. I bought a cute binder and put some of those clear/plastic sheet protectors in it. Each page gets it's individual protector.

I have everything he's ever sent me, but not so organized. I like to have him with me where ever I am so there are some at home, some at work, some in the car. He's never too far away, just in case I'm having one of those days.

We use Jmail nowadays so his letters arrive into my e-mail. I used to have Jmail ship his original letters via courier to me once a month or so....but not anymore, I want to save that money for phone time...so they shred his letters after scanning them for me.

We've just started our fourth year in each others' lives and I've become less sentimental and/or excited about certain things. It is enough for me to have his letters on my laptop and not stacked in shoeboxes like before

I haven't used JPay for messaging in years and cannot remember how that works as far as alerts about messages go, sorry!

I live in Europe and my fiancť is incarcerated in CA without the possibility for e-mails. Snail mail would take anywhere between 1-2 weeks one way....so using Jmail will make writing much quicker for us (my letters for him are printed and mailed out in Los Angeles, he writes back to the LA address and Jmail staff scans his letters into their online system where I can read/save them).

So Jmail is really more beneficial for people writing from outside of the U.S. who do not have access to email messaging
