Default Restitution balance?

I want to pay off my son's restitution but first I need to find out how much he still owes after commissary deductions. I found GovPayNet to make the payment but they do not have any information on the balance owed. Where can I find this information? Thanks.

That's a tough one to find out. I could not find any info on my girl, and she didn't know either! Only way to find out was seeing 1/2 of the deposit get garnished. I will ask her again tonight about it because I am trying to get the totals so there is no noise about it when its time for parole planning.

I would assume the county clerk's office would have a record of it.

If they are taking money from them, see if they can get an accounting. In NYS they get an accounting every month, but it does not say balance owed just what they take and out toward various fees/fines.

May also see if your son can find out from his counselor. My husband had court fee ($100)imposed, no restitution, and after he had entered and was there about a month or so I believe they let him know that starting in December (he went in in August) they would deduct $25 every three months for a year.

When my son had fines & fees to pay, it was recorded in his sentencing order filed with the clerk of court. You should be able to get that by contacting them or his lawyer should have a copy. A lady I know had to pay a HUGE restitution & it was in her sentencing order too.
I went to that GovPayNet site & it looks like what you do is click on "make a payment". It opens a window & you can enter a payment location code or go down & manually do it. To make sure, I'd go down & enter the info. I choose the "pay fines & costs" option, then picked the state name. I then clicked on the agency box & chose "Court Options". The next box I clicked on restitution. Click continue & it will then take you to the next screen where you enter his info. You should be able to also get info on how to do it by calling them at 305-378-8123.

In CA you would need to get the info via the counselor. They can ask for a balance.
Or check here

Thank you everyone for your replies. I should have specified my son is in the Federal system. He did get the total balance owed from his counselor and told me to contact the West Palm Beach County Clerk of Court. But that was the incorrect because he is in the Federal system. I finally reached the WPB Clerk of Courts that handles federal cases and was told to send their department a money order or cashiers check for the amount.

One reason I decided to pay this off for him early was that, if he does not have enough money in his commissary when they withdraw the $25 or $50 restitution payment every 3 months, it adds disciplinary points, or whatever they call penalties for bad behavior. It would be nice if that penalty was explained when he went into the prison system instead of 5 years later. Also, the more commissary funds the inmate receives from loved ones, the more they deduct from the commissary balance. This penalizes parents and spouses, many who struggle to pay their own family's bills plus pay for commissary and transportation expenses for traveling thousands of miles to visit their loved one.
