Default Intro - From Arizona

I didn't really do a proper introduction when I asked if anyone had any knowledge of the prison in McRae, Georgia - sorry. But thank you to everyone who welcomed me - it felt great.

My fiance and I have been together for almost 3 years. He is Jamaican, but he was in the U.S. legally - half his family lives in Florida. He is currently serving a 6 1/2 year sentence on conspiracy charges - first and LAST offense.

He has put two years in, most of that near Chicago. He is now on his way to Georgia. The BOP is housing noncitizen prisoners at privately run prisons and that's where he's headed. When he is released he will be automatically deported. And I will leave the U.S. too because he's my man and I love him!

It's funny that I didn't find this site sooner - you all are so supportive and I could have really used that in the initial stages of this whole nightmare. I am doing better these days, but I know that I am an idealist and I struggle with the mandatory sentences and the sentencing guidelines - just the way the system works! Who knew? That's the crazy part - unless you're personally affected, you don't really know how they just throw people away for unreasonable amounts of time. I have written many letters to my congressmen and tried to become involved in organizations like Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM), the November Coalition, and FedCure. But my congressmen ignore me and these organizations want my money - not my time, which I have more of.

Anyways, I'm glad I found you all and I hope to get to know you all better. Thanks for having me!
